Cowboy Cerrone is my boy. I root for him every time out, because he always gives it his full effort.

GSP didn't say that about the guys on UFC 150...I was just applying what he said to Matt Hughes back in the day. But yes GSP doesnt finish anymore and lays n prays like just like Jake Shields.

I agree Cowboy always comes to fight.

As far as Edgar not finishing fights, it bothers me too, but at least it's not because of a lay n pray style of fighting. His quickness is what makes him so tough to finish. He did have a pretty nice come from behind KO win in his last fight with Maynard though.

I believe he is just to small to be able to dominate in Lightweight. If he would drop down and still be able to fight at the level he fights at in Lightweight he may make a run on Aldo. Although I think Aldo will destroy him. I think he knows that too and is why he hasn't said he will drop down even though it always comes up after his fights especially after a loss.

Same here. I think he should drop, but I don't think he'd beat Aldo.

Some interesting news from the UFC today. Looks like Chael Sonnen will be moving up to LHW and his first fight will be against Forrest Griffin on December 29th. In typical Sonnen fashion, he made the move up in weight by talking sh1t about the champion. I think Sonnen will be able to handle Griffin, but Jones is a whole different story. He might be the only one at the top of the 205 class who hasn't already been beaten by Jones. Sonnen vs Evans might be a good fight at 205.

UFC on Fox 5 also scheduled for December has some good fights lined up. Main event will be Benson Henderson vs Nate Diaz for the LW title. Next up is Shogun vs Gustaffson, which is a fight I'm really excited to see. There's a good chance the winner of this fight gets the next title shot after Machida. Time to see if Gustaffson can step up to that elite level or if Shogun can get back there. The 3rd fight announced for this show is Penn vs MacDonald. This fight had to be delayed because MacDonald was injured during practice. Should be a good show.

I hate the Diaz brothers. There day is coming. There going to get there a$$ pounded.
I'll take Chael over FG.

speedfreek 08-15-2012 11:22 AM

Yep I read the same thing this morning. I think Sonnen should have to fight the winner of Gustaffason and Shogun before getting a shot at Jones. I don't think it would be fair to Gustaffason. Although he is a couple fights away from challenging Jones as he hasnt fought the top tier of the LHW division yet. Shogun will be his first challenge. Would like to see him fight one more after him though.....like Evans or Machida but since he's out for fighting the LHW champ next I guess Sonnen. Then the winner of that get a crack at LHW champ.

UFC Fox 5 is stacked! All three fights should be good. It's about time Dana White and Co. gave something back after some of the crappy PPV cards everyone paid for!

b1adesofcha0s 08-15-2012 11:32 AM

Yeah Sonnen definitely shouldn't be getting a title fight without beating at least one or two top level LHW's first. I think Evans might be a good match up for him. Will be interesting to see how he does against someone else who is a pretty good wrestler. I think Evans would beat Sonnen though.

I could see Gustaffson getting a title shot if he does really well against Shogun. I could also see Shogun getting it if he does well. Another interesting LHW fight coming up is Rampage vs Teixeira. If Teixeira does well, he could become a part of the title picture as well. Maybe he can take on Sonnen if they both win?

I see where a lot of people hate them. It's their persona growing up on the mean streets <insert name>. They act like thugs and talk crap. But minus Nick's weed smoking tendencies he is an athelete and stays in shape by doing triathalons. He has said if he could make as much money doing those as MMA you wouldnt see him fight again. In any rate no one is going to out last him in the cage and will have to make him go to sleep by KO or submission to finish the fight. I didn't care for the Condit fight although it was a smart game plan it made for a boring fight to circle and jab without doing any damage but winning on points for more punches landed. Sucks he didn't try for submissions earlier in the fight after the first 3 rounds he saw what Condit was doing and didnt make the adjustment to try to change the fight. Just gotta take them for what they want to be. Sh!ttalkers and Nick likes to stand and bang. Nate on the other hand has developed into a more technical fighter with good submissions. I couldn't believe he got by Cerrone.

I agree Chael over Griffin.

Big news from the UFC today. Dan Henderson suffered a partial MCL tear while training and had to pull out of his fight with Jones. Apparently Dana White called up a bunch of other LHW's to see if anyone was willing to take on Jones with pretty much 1 weeks notice. Looks like Chael Sonnen was the only one who said yes, but Jones refused to fight him so they just cancelled the whole event. Now Jones will be fighting Machida on September 22nd at UFC 152.

It was pretty lame of Jones to turn down the replacement fight IMO. It's the first time a UFC champion has ever done that apparently. So now we get to see Jones fight the same person 2 times in a row :shakes head:

MC 08-23-2012 03:04 PM

yeah i saw that about an hour ago... dana was pissed in the conference call lol.
but yeah jones ducked sonnen thats just sad

i wonder when all this went down... if you guys have been following headlines the last week chael has been really vocal about jones so that makes me think maybe he knew something? but then dana said something like chael wouldnt earn a title shot even if he beat forrest in december... then i guess ironically hendo got hurt and chael was the go to guy

i dont think chael would have won but he guy has grown on me and i enjoy watching him fight now so hendo jones was like the fight i was most excited for and chael as a substitute would have kept the hype level up for me...

machida... ehh i dunno like you said its not something fans want to see right now.. all i know is i will be pulling for him...im pretty much a jones hater now

speedfreek 08-23-2012 03:18 PM

I started off liking Jones. Unknown, self-taught, good skill set, size advantage. Then he started having issues with the drunk driving incident...not a good role model. Didn't even handle it cleanly and kept pushing it back instead of getting it taken care of immediately. Then after the stuff aired about Rashad and him made me lose even more respect for the guy. Now ducking Chael when he was taking the fight with only one week notice. Chael wasn't even training and out of shape. If there was ever a time to face Chael P. Sonnen, the American Gangsta, it is when he has been laid up on the couch for a couple months. Not ducking him and maybe fight him down the road with a full training camp. Loved what he told Dana, "Not only will I take the fight, I will fly down to Mandalay Bay and fight him tonight if you want me to!"

In other news Frankie "Not the Answer" Edgar moved down to featherweight. People actually thinks he has a chance against my man Jose Aldo. I will take that bet all day long. Aldo will destroy Edgar. Edgar is a points fighter. Aldo will KO him. Edgar's speed will not be an asset in Featherweight as all those guys are fast.

I won't be buying the card to see the same old fight. Even though I hope Machida wins.

What about the talk of GSP vs. Silva being talked about again. If GSP gets past Condit....it may get super serial.

Sibze 08-23-2012 03:40 PM

Now we comes to Canada for UFC 152. I might pick up some tickets

Yeah I was hoping at least someone else would step up and take the fight, but he might have turned them down as well. They could have just waited a couple months for Hendo to recover, but I guess they really wanted to put Jones in action.

I don't mind Machida fighting Jones again, but I think Jones should fight someone else first. It will build more hype for the rematch. It's not like the first fight was close or anything.

Same here. I used to love Jones when I first started watching him fight, but now I just hate his personality. Still love watching his fights and respect his skills, but like Rashad said he comes off as a very fake person. I think he's a little to full of himself right now. He might be the next Anderson Silva, but he needs to accomplish much more before he gets that level of respect.

I have mine. On the floor, fighters entrance seat 1 and 2. can't wait to hear all the boos when Jones walks out.

Let me know if you guys come up for the fight. We're staying at the fighter hotel, lots of hanging out with the fighters, we also run a big party at the loose moose restaurant on the Friday night after weigh-ins. 2-300 people, usually a fighter or two shows up and we have prizes... Just a great time in general.

So jealous right now, wish I was in Canada so I could come to this :p

Yeah definitely gained a lot of respect for Sonnen and lost a lot of respect for Jones with this whole mess. Looks like the reasoning he refused the fight was because it was on short notice. Really? You've been training for a fight for months, you're in shape to fight. Sonnen had no plans of fighting any time soon and was completely unprepared for a fight. Sure the strategy would be different for fighting Sonnen vs fighting Henderson, but you still have a huge advantage in fight preparation. It was a selfish decision and Dana White is definitely pissed about it. Greg Jackson influenced Jones' decision and White had some things to say about him as well. Not the kind of thing you want to do when you're coming off a DWI.
