I've never liked Big Boy Roy, the thing he has is he can take a punch to deliver. Over time that will start wear down if he lasts that long and can continue stringing along a few wins along with his losses. I think he should have to cut that huge beard he is rocking these days. Gives his chin some cushion. But when he faces Carwin and has to eat one of those lunch boxes I think he will see lights out that night.

Kos what can you say about Kos that hasn't already been said. Don't particularly like him or hate him. I for one like the trash talking and ramping up of the fight. It makes it more interesting if they make it personal. Think back of the antics Mike Tyson used to pull at the pre-fight conferences. After his career was over he stated that he would have the fight won before his opponent would even step into the ring. Getting in someones head is part of the fight.

Who is watching the fights Saturday? I will not be buying this card and hopefully make it to the local BWW or B Dubs as I like to call them or any place that is carrying the fight.

I hope Faber can get past Barao. I really want him to beat Cruz to close out their trilogy.

I am also curious to see how Lombard does against Boestch. Can a Bellator fighter succeed in the UFC? Is he the real deal or just beating up on B class talent.

Hate on Roy all you like, fellas, he's a winner. He's knocked out guys who were favored, guys who were taller, longer, etc. I like him because he's the anti-Jon Jones. You look at his physique and think, "whaaaa?"

Trash talk is bush league bullcrap. It's just drama. I prefer when fighters show respect and discipline, reflecting the nature of martial arts, not the melodramatic WWE bs. Even Spider Silva got into the act, and I've lost some respect for him because of it.

I don't mind Roy, definitely an interesting personality. I just don't think he will win this specific fight. He hasn't done too well against top level heavy weights with heavy hands. His 3 UFC losses were to JDS, Frank Mir, and Fabricio Werdum. I see Carwin throwing punches in bunches and eventually gassing out around the 3rd round. Last 2 rounds will probably be your typical HW whale slugfest. I think Carwin gets the win by decision. Of course either of them could land a good punch at any time and end the fight.

I don't like the trash talk either, but I have to admit it gets me way more excited for the fight. I think Sonnen went too far in the comments disrespecting Silva's wife and country and I was actually happy to see Silva finally say something.

Didn't change my opinion of the fight a bit. I was excited because the last one was so close. I knew Sonnen was a trash talker. His words are meaningless. I would have rather Silva shown class, shown that he is the bigger man, as others have in the past.

I don't like the fact that it got me more excited for the fight, but it did. I would have preferred that Silva show some more class but it is what it is.

I'd like to see Faber rise to the top again. He was always one of my favorites. Just so entertaining and seems like a really good guy, you know.

I think when you have trash talkers, it raises revenue, but also makes the gentlemanly fighters look that much better. Kos is one of those guys who trash talks before a fight, then he immediately gets classy again right before during and after the fight. So you know his trash talk is just about raising hype. The fact that he went up and HUGGED GSP after their last one blew me away.

I think we will all remember that line about brock lesnar eating a burrito :shakes head:

I think you all are getting to caught up in this being Daniel-san and Mr. Miagi type martial arts. These are regular people who chose MMA as a lucrative business to compete in with their talents...some more than others. All walks of life are getting into the sport...so to not like someone cuz they cultivate some alter ego or naturally like to trash talk is one thing but it will never be a "true" martial arts contest in that sense. They have those martial arts displays where they break boards and stuff.

But Silva got heated and went off it happens. He showed his class at the end of the fight when he congratulated Sonnen for the fight and said that even though he said all that crap Brazil still loved him or something to that effect...I had been drinking a few and can't remember exactly how he phrased it so sue me. But you get the point. Sonnen also congratulated Silva. Sonnen uses his mouth to make him more money. You know how many more people bought that fight to see if he could beat Silva after all that trash talk and hype. Sadly it didn't live up to the hype of the first one but that is not the point. Silva and the UFC profited off of Sonnen's ability to trash talk and to do it quite well.

Just sayin', I'd rather them prove it with their fists and grappling ability than their flapping gums.

It's gonna get so played out. It's like when beef starts up at boxing weigh-ins. It's so staged. You know it's acting. Same with the UFC hype. Same with WWE "back stage interviews".

If all that crap, all that fluff, appeals to you, then go ahead and watch it for that. I watch it for what goes on in the ring. If a fighter needs to use trash talk to get in someone's head, it's to compensate for their shortcomings elsewhere. True champs don't need to talk. The belt around their waist says everything.

Fighters do all manner of things to try and intimidate their opponents, and it's all circus crap. Doing cartwheels around the ring, not fist-bumping, flexing. Whatever. Put up or shut up.

speedfreek 07-19-2012 02:12 PM

I am not saying I like all of it. But it happens for a reason...at least some of the time. Mental Warfare if done correctly. The staged WWE crap can :gtfo2:

It would seem the consensus is that we all recognize its not real trash talk, but something to raise more money to get the lower iq people to pay to see it. We all put up with it, because it generally is a fantastic sport with fantastic participants. Its like have a fantastic sports car with only one cupholder.:tiphat:

I especially hate when two fighters jaw at each other and the fight ends up being a real stinker, like Rampage/Rashad.

That's the worst. Such a huge letdown.

There is always an exception to the rule. Rampage is done and it will be interesting to see if Rashad makes the move to middleweight.

If he is successful and wins one or two fights in middleweight. We could see a Silva/Evans fight if Silva isnt retired by then.
