Silva has the advantage if they stand, but GSP has the advantage on the ground. Will also be good to watch GSP's takedowns vs Silva's takedown defense. I wonder if Silva will do something crazy like drop his hands and let GSP try to hit him. It's worked for Silva in the past, but he hasn't done it to anyone at the level of GSP. Though I'd have to imagine GSP would go for a takedown at that point.
|
Silvia is for sure weak on the ground.
|
But like we learned in the first fight with Sonnen, you can never count him out of the fight or think he's done. That may be where GSP's inability to finish could hurt him.

I didn't say it was because of GSP's conditioning. Just that Silva always finds a way to win, no matter how the fight is going.

I'm not a Silva fanboy either, although I am starting to appreciate his fights more, now that he's finishing them. |
Last time GSP tried to put on a little weight, he looked terrible. That was in his last fight against Shields.

Fitch vs Maia announced for Super Bowl weekend fight.

Hard fought fight. Great job GSP.
Great KO on Hendricks part also. |
Omg. Amazing amazing amazing fight.
O Canada! |
johny hendricks = my new fav fighter lol

GSP came out very aggressive and I loved it. Hendricks is a beast. Silva made an interesting comment before the fight though. He indicated that he might be open to a fight with Jones after a fight with GSP. I think the Silva vs GSP fight will be a lot closer than I had previously thought. |

Great weekend
The fights were great, well, not so great for some of the Canadians... It was another wild weekend spent with my friends, partying, promoting, mingling... good times.

Looks like GSP shot down a potential super fight with Silva. I will be not be happy if he ends up getting KO'd by Hendricks and then we never get to see him fight Silva. Though maybe this will lead to a Silva vs Jones fight, which might be even better.
UFC Superfight: Georges St-Pierre Says He'll Fight Anderson Silva "When it Makes Sense" | MMAWeekly.com |
I know I saw Jones say he wouldn't fight Silva either. Cause there is to much respect from there friendship. Such BS. I'd fight my brother to see if I'm better that day. I'd still respect him reguardless.

Looks like the next season of TUF will start on Jan 22nd. It will come on Tuesdays at 9 pm now. Can't wait!
|
Also, I can't wait for UFC on Fox this Saturday. The main card is pretty stacked. Looking forward to BJ Penn hopefully returning to dominance and Shogun taking care of Gustaffson on his way to a title shot.
|
I feel BJ has lost it for good. But you never know. As long a Diaz gets his a$$ kicked that all I'm concerned with. I hate those two brothers.

It's getting close fight fans. Funny how Dana puts on a good free card to mess with one of Boxing's more promising nights.
Here is my take.... If BJ is motivated that will be the day. However even if he comes prepared for this fight it won't last. He has never been a gym rat and never will be. He is kind of like Hendo in this regard. The last time Hendo was asked about cardio he answered," I haven't ran in 10 years!" I am a BJ fan but the kid may prove to be too much. If BJ doesn't end it early I do not see him weathering the storm. Prove me wrong BJ! Now the other big fight on this card besides Bendo and Diaz is Shogun and the Swede. Gustafsson has been on a tear. If he gets past Shogun then he is ready for Jones. Or give him Machida then Jones. Either way if he wins one or two more fights I want to see what he can do with Jones. He has the length to not have to get inside like everyone else has to do with Jones. So it will make for an interesting match up once Gustafsson is ready and battle tested. Bendo vs Diaz. I want Diaz to win. Hate em or love em. The Diaz brothers come to fight. Nate Diaz quote: " But he's (Bendo) what I call a round-winner. That's not me. I am a fighter." I used to like Bendo but when he couldn't destroy Frankie Edgar who I absolutely hate. He lost me. Plus when you are posterized for eternity with the Pettis Cage Walk! Remember everyone has a gameplan until you get hit in the face! |
anyone hear they just announced nick diaz vs GSP instead of anderson silva?
also ronda rousey headlines UFC 157 vs liz carmouche... i bet dana would have stroke if rousey lost as they pretty much developed the UFC women's belt around her. but yeah more than all that im excited about saturdays card its overall a better than card than PPV at the end of the month i got mcdonald , shogun( thats my upset pick of the night) and henderson i really want diaz to win as bendo comes off a bit too self righteous to me.. the diaz brothers might be the two worst PR guys in the history of sports as nate is so hood he cant string a sentence together but man i love to watch them fight lol i think henderson will be too technical for diaz and is too smart to get hurt by the pitter patter diaz punches gustafsson and mcdonald sort of are on the same upward path vs their opponents downward for BJ and barely holding steady of shogun but i say if one of them is going to stop the rising stars out of those two i say shogun is due for one of his KO wins. i think BJ is mentally done as a fighter but i mean he could have one more left...we will see |
Damn I hate Diaz. I hope for a KO kick to the head.
|
Not happy about the GSP vs Diaz fight, but it's what GSP specifically asked for so I'm sure it will be fun to watch. I hate the Diaz brothers and I hope they both get KO'd.
Apparently Dana White said that the winner of the Shogun vs Gustaffson fight will get the next LHW title shot. What I think he's really doing is setting himself up with another possible #1 contender in case of injury. So you could have either the winner of this fight or the winner of Hendo vs Machida as potential challengers for the title. |
Wow did you guys see that KO by Ricci on TUF? He looks like he's gonna have a good career in the UFC, very well rounded fighter.
|
Nice. But I feel most fighters always keep it standing now days. I miss the ground game. Very few fighters have that now. Usually when it goes to the ground they don't know what to do now.

Well it looks like the young guys are taking over the UFC now. Penn was clearly outmatched in his fight. He's clearly too small for WW and needs to go back down to LW if he wants to continue his career, which he probably shouldn't. I'm surprised he didn't get finished in that one. Was it just me or was MacDonald coming off as a real dbag after that fight. He almost got KO'd at the end trying to be like Anderson Silva.
Shogun looked good against Gustaffson and I don't think it was quite as imbalanced as the scorecards made it look. He was aggressive and landed a lot of good shots. His strategy for the fight wasn't a good one though. All he was doing was trying to land that one good KO punch. I still think Shogun needs to go back to using his strong leg kicks, especially against tall rangy fighters like Gustaffson. His skinny legs wouldn't have held up much against a couple of those kicks. Was happy to see Henderson dominate Diaz and give him the beating he deserves. Just wish he could have finished him. |
I was hoping MacDonald would get KO'd after the BS he was pulling. He had Penn on the fence and could of easily picked him apart. Instead he kept talking to him. Then let him off the fence so he could dance around. I was glad to see Penn try for it even if he was outmatched. It would have been bittersweet becasue even if he could have pulled it off and got the win. He still needs to retire. It's done.
The Shogun vs Gustaffson match was good for the first couple rounds. Then the Shogun we all know showed up for the third round. Gassed and nothing left in the tank. I agree about where are those leg kicks. It was clear Henderson size and gameplan was too much for Diaz. All he could hope for was a submission. Still sad to see how overmatched Diaz was and Henderson fail to end the fight. Brown set the tone with his KO in the first fight on the main card. The undercard had some exciting fights and the leg kick KO should of been Knockout of the Night. I guess Dana didn't watch each undercard fight before giving out the awards. |
I didn't watch the undercard, just the main one. Which fight had the leg kick KO?
I don't see why Shogun abandoned the leg kicks. Look how well they worked against Machida in their first fight. They are arguably one of his best weapons too. It's so frustrating watching him like this fight after fight knowing what he is actually capable of. |
It was by a guy named Cruickshank. It was nasty. He didn't have to finish with more punches or elbows. Out cold.
Shogun is almost done. He is hanging around like Wanderlai Silva did. He may win a few more fights before hanging them up, but he will never string them together to get in line for a title fight. |
I don't think he's quite at that point yet. If he could get his cardio up to speed, he'd be ok, but that might be asking too much considering his age and condition.
|
I'm just wondering what's gonna happen with Anderson Silva next. GSP is gonna fight Diaz. Jones is fighting Sonnen. Weidman is injured. He'll probably just take off and fight at the end of 2013 like he was planning this whole time. Or maybe he can take on the Bisping vs Belfort winner?
|
I'm now ready for CV vs JDS. These two guys are a toss up for sure. But I'm picking Cain. He's not going to trade to many punches (even though he has KO abilities also) but get it on the the ground and I know it would be over then. JDS also has no stamina so if it goes to the second round that will hurt him too.
|
I'm still going with JDS and can't wait for this fight either. Looks like JDS just recently earned his BJJ black belt so he has been working on his ground game for sure. We haven't really seen much of it with the way he has been dominating with his boxing.
