MLB Hotstove
now that the world series is over teams only have five days to sign their freeagents or risk losing them to other teams. This was shortened from the 15 days through the collective bargining agreement. Below is a list of potential Free Agents for 2011 either through contracts expiring or six years allowing them to declear free agency. So I'm hoping this thread to becomea discussion of baseball's offseason season.

Lance Berkman, Nick Johnson, Chad Gaudin & Kerry Wood are gone. Hope the Yankees can keep Andy Petite, Mariano Rivera, Jeter, get a good DH/1st Baseman and sign some good pitching prospects. I think NYY are keeping Austin Kearns and Marcus Thames.
On a side note they need to get rid off AJ and Vazquez in the offseason. I think the Yankees will try to sign Paul Konerko or Carlos Peña. :dunno: |
Good luck getting Jeter, suckas. You can have Vasquez and Nick Johnson, though :tiphat:

Anything can happen, however I don't see Jeter playing for anyone else. I would said Jeter has two or three more yrs if so of playing because his offesive number are showing that, but his defense is still there. Nick Johnson is gone! Read the news. :tiphat: |
Red Sox took the option on Papi. Good deal if he just matches this years stats. The Sox still need a HR threat behind Ortiz to get him better pitches.
|
Looks like Tampa Bay and the NYM are going to have almost brand new teams.
|
WOW!!! The Red Sox traded for Adrian Gonzalez a power hitting 1B and turned around and signed Carl Crawford from TB. Looks like Boston is making a statement to the rest of the East.

Making a trade and signing one middle career player isn't anything like signing half a billion dollars in contracts in 1 off season. |

Cliff lee gave The Yankees and their huge contract the bird and went back to the Phillies.
Not only did they offer less money and years but The Philles traded Lee away. You would think that he wouldn't even consider the team tha got ride of him. So heres to Cliff Lee for showing every pro athlete that money isn't everything. |

Because he does not impress anyone during the regular season! |
The Yankees are doing terrible deals. Why we need a wash out Mark Prior for a Minor League contract and Martin Rusell from the Dodgers for catcher?
With this list of catchers out there: Brad Ausmus LAD Rod Barajas LAD Josh Bard SEA Henry Blanco NYM John Buck TOR Ramon Castro CWS Ramon Hernandez CIN Reed Johnson LAD Gerald Laird DET Jason LaRue STL Victor Martinez BOS Chad Moeller NYY Jose Molina TOR Miguel Olivo COL * A.J. Pierzynski CWS David Ross ATL Yorvit Torrealba SD * Matt Treanor TEX Jason Varitek BOS Gregg Zaun MIL * Boston already did two good deals and the Filis are set up at least in pitching. I don't know what the hell the Yankees management is doing during the off season but they have yet to land a good deal, I see them going downhill in the off season. |
I Believe Boston has improved their team and changed the AL East. It should be NY and Boston fighting it out for 1st and 2nd. TB lost 2 key players (1 to Boston) so they shouldn't be as strong. Although I'm excited about the deals that boston has made so far I know that if they are plagued by the same season ending injuries again next year they will still be in third place.

The giants retained all but two of their players for another run at the title. For you new york guys u can check out the giants world series trophy january 22 at the hilton new york:happydance:

Well Tampa Bay just made a big move in the east. Looks like they signed 2 ex-Red Sox. Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez. Even though I believe Damon can help a lot of MLB teams I believe he is past his prime. Now Manny is a great player and future hall of famer, but can he get past his own ego and help the team or will he be a drain on scruple else.
The East is going to be tuff again. Go BoSox! |

On the other hand they let go Soriano to the NYY and I don't see a reason why NY got him when he is a closer still having Mariano. NY needed pitching, but they need starters and mid game relievers. They also I not got any outfiled players.... The NYY management this off season has been terrible signing wash off players to minor leagues contracts and so on. |
Yes NY has been off compared to prior years this off season. Now Soriano maybe not a bad thing. Riveria is getting old and having someone who can step in as a closer at a moments notice is not a bad idea. I think the Yankees still think they can out score every one, so they could get by without trading away the farm for pitching.
As a BoSox fan I will never discount the Yankees. |
The NYY signed Bartolo Colon, another wash out pitcher to a minor league contract. :shakes head:
|
They had to do something I guess. And now jaba isn't going to start either?
|
This MLB season for the NYY is going to be terrible! :shakes head:
|
I think it's gonna be great!
|
Pitcher Freddy García 35 yrs old gets a Minor League contract. :shakes head:
Another minor league contract, supposdely $5.1 millons if they come to an agreement. |
About 9 more days for the 1st 2011 MLB game.
|
Yankees are grasping at straws with all these washed up players signing minor league contracts.

I've got tickets to three games of the four game series in Aug of the Red Sox at Rangers.
|
Good start for the Yankess 6-3 against Detroit!
I know is a long season..... |
A win in April counts the same as a win in September
|
Man the red sox have drop the first two against the rangers. I know its a long season and I should worry, but I have ticket for the red sox at rangers in aug. I hope they do better then.
|
Yanks ftw
|
Well the Red Sox finally got into the win column against the Yankees. Beckett pitched awesome and the Sox were lucky because they left too many on base. Now they go against the Rays who are also under performing so this series will be a who wants it more.
I feel that the Sox early problems this season should be blamed on the coaching staff. I don't think that the team was prepared to start the season from spring training and now it's gonna be a lot of catch up in the hardest division in the MLB. |
O R I O LES
Magic, magic, magic... |

Anyway GO NYY!!! |
Sox are still under performing. They need to realize that it's not just gonna be handed to them.
|
Colorado is playing great, Texas and Cleveland too...
|
Red Sox have 3 good wins in a row. That's a streak. Hope they keep it up.
