Going with the 3H, 4H, 5-PW.

Picked up a new R1 driver for $200 (normally $400+), thank you Black Friday. That's also a Christmas present. :(

Now I have to pick out a 3-Wood, putter, and bag.

Played for the first time in like two months, maybe three and played pretty well.

We usually just do 2v2 best ball when we go out, but I'm impressed with myself after my lessons - I'm starting to consistently hit the ball straight off the tee. My chipping is phenomenal for about 90% of the day, and my putting is probably the best part of my game, but it's not perfect.

Just need to get out and practice more and I'll be happier when I'm out on the course.

Short game practice is the only way to lower a score for sure. I like those Speedblades a lot andd I have a R1 TP Driver, RBZ 3HL wood and Rescue TP R2, but for some reason Cleveland Irons always test out the best for me. I just discovered the Pro V1x is an incredible ball as well (been using the TM Lethal until now).

Where are you taking lessons?

I'm no longer taking lessons, but my friends Dad works for Ping (I forget his title other than he's a "PGA Pro") and I got lessons back in April maybe? I just made sure to write down everything he said and I look over it every time I go to golf..

I may grab my SW and do some chipping today when I get home, since there's an exec. course less than two minutes away.

You guys are killing me with golf talk and there's snow on the ground here lol

I've played prov's for about 2 years solid now and love them. I only play the prov1 x if I find them since I don't feel my swing speed is fast enough where the harder ball matters. They do sometimes fly straighter on my drives though when I'm having one of those slice days lol

Also just my 2 cents on putters is that if you golf a lot and have the money to spare go with a Scotty Cameron. I was just a average putter with good read ability. I switched to a Scotty Cameron black putter the week they came out and I cut out a bunch of typical three putts from my game. They feel of the putter helped me stay on line and smooth out my stroke. Also I think it's a mental boost holding a Scotty lol confidence in a Putting stroke does wonders when you can commit to a line and speed. Dropped me from mid/high 90s to mid/80s real quick. Now if I can just figure out how to get my driver more consistent I could easily be mid 70s haha.

I will flip between a Pro V1 and Pro V1x, though I think the lack of spin on the X helps keep my drive straighter at times, but I'd like to have the control on the green when I need to draw it back (sometimes I can do that, most of the time I'm just happy I'm on the green. :icon17:)

I haven't decided on a putter yet, though I think I want one of those fat grips on it. I've never hit with one, but it seems it would help with the feel, etc.

I'll go look at putters here soon.

I think if I played a bit more and now that I'm getting my stroke down after lessons, I could be back into mid-80's. I just have to practice more to get the consistency with the irons/short game to get myself back to low-80's or even into the 70's. Man, I'm pumped to play again. I don't know why I stopped for a couple of months! :shakes head:

I do the same if I have both types when I'm driving and approach sometimes lol although when playing for money or a pro-am I can't do that. Typically ill do that just to see if it is the spin from a bad driver swing cutting across the face that is causing my swing. So technically I can call it research lol.

I got a Scotty Cameron black 1.5 with 2 - 15g weights in the bottom. Also it's a solid bent heel shaft. Not the step down nor a straight in design. Don't like either of those styles. Also the fatter grips do feel better but I haven't used one enough to be convinced to switch over yet. Takes a lot of the wrist movement out of the equation for me at least. Not sure how it effects others.

Sadly I shot mostly high 80s and some low 90s this summer but I didn't play barely at all this year. Did like 2 outings and maybe got out once or twice a month at best. It rained on a lot of Weekends this summer here in Pittsburgh. Ruined most of my free time for golf.

Haboob 12-03-2013 10:47 AM

Ah. I don't bend/move my wrists at all when putting.

I almost hate golfing right now with my Dad's old clubs, I wish Xmas was tomorrow so I could have my new ones. :icon17: I'm going to have to relearn distances and such, but it'll be good.

Yea when I switched to titleist ap2's last spring it took me almost all summer to get my distances down again. They added about 15 yards average. Some more some less. But I will say those irons are amazing lol

I'm slowly converting my whole bag to titleist. All I need now is driver, hybrid, and wedges. For now though my Cleveland cg14 wedges are working fine and are pretty new so those will be last. My r7 driver is next to go. Glad my buddy is sponsored by titleist and I think I'm getting some hand-me-down wedges since he just got a whole new set of 18 different clubs for his 2014 season use lol

Haboob 12-03-2013 11:28 AM

TBH, the Titleist felt good. I really couldn't tell the difference between the TM and the Titleist, it just came down to price and the fact I've been using TM for a long time I guess.

They also had a TM rep at GolfSmith that helped me fit the club pretty well when I went to try it out.

Yea I love the feel of them over anything else I've tried. Also price wasn't a factor since I paid much less than the normal $1200 for AP2's lol so I went with what I actually wanted which was nice.

Damn, those Scotty Cameron putters are ridiculously expensive.

That's what I'm reading.

I may offer to go halfsies with my parents on one, since they're buying me the set for Xmas. Unless I can find a slightly used one for cheaper than $350.

I'm not that good to win a pro-am yet.

I am not even certain what I can shoot now, as we usually just play 2v2 best ball when we go out.
