My favorite club for a long time was a used Ping driver I picked up for $40. That and my custom Golfsmith irons (1-SW) were the clubs I missed the most for a long time after I had two full bags stolen out of storage. Although I kind of like my current $50 550cc Green Monster driver all things considered lol

Not over compensating. Just making sure everything is similar size. You know... huge

To be honest, I bought it for the price when I was trying to put a bag together and short on cash. They have a 1000cc driver head you can buy, but it's more expensive. It's really designed to be a trophy or something like that. Just imagine pulling that bad boy out of your bag

Nice I can make solid contact about 90% of the time, but getting it in the fairway is barely a 50/50 chance
I used to practice it at the driving range pretty regularly

A while back I broke the face of my Taylormade Burner TP driver, so I tested out a few new drivers and bought a Taylormade R1 with the stock TP shaft. From the start it was pretty long and straight even on mishits.
Recently I have been tweaking my swing to take some of the draw out of my iron shots, thus eliminating the occasional hook or crazy pull. While this resulted in more of a baby draw/straight flight with my irons, it was doing crazy things with my driver which took a lot of effort to hit it straight. My misses were either a short pull-draw(hook) or a crazy long straight push. So I decided since I had this ultra-adjustable driver I would start seeing what it could do. I ended up with a really long, medium trajectory mini-fade which I repeated today every time I used the driver off the tee. That turned out to be 6/6 fairways hit at 300+ yards. Previously being skeptical about adjustable clubs I am now a believer in the technology. My final settings for my R1 are interesting: 10 degree regular loft, 3 degrees open with the weights set up for a draw bias. If you were skeptical like me and thinking about an R1, I highly recommend it! |

Went to a demo day by TM for their Speed Blades - I'm sold on them.
A month or so ago I tested a TM RocketBladez 6 iron and it felt really good, was averaging about 189 or so yards, longest was just over 200, quite a few 190-196 (until I began getting tired). Then for the Speed Blades demo day I was given a 7 iron and was getting the same distance from the 7 that I was from a 6 in the RocketBladez. For reference, I hit my current 7 iron about 155-165 yds. The club is almost 20yrs old (TM Firesole), so a majority of the extra distance comes from the new technology . I can't wait for Xmas and my new clubs. |

Should be ordering the new SpeedBlades here in the next few days.
Going with the 3H, 4H, 5-PW. Picked up a new R1 driver for $200 (normally $400+), thank you Black Friday. That's also a Christmas present. Now I have to pick out a 3-Wood, putter, and bag. Played for the first time in like two months, maybe three and played pretty well. We usually just do 2v2 best ball when we go out, but I'm impressed with myself after my lessons - I'm starting to consistently hit the ball straight off the tee. My chipping is phenomenal for about 90% of the day, and my putting is probably the best part of my game, but it's not perfect. Just need to get out and practice more and I'll be happier when I'm out on the course. |
