Hamilton used to love doing the same slow the hell down, and then as everyone behind is braking he would accelerate, and timed right, would yield some nice gaps.

You're right... it does. And F1 is headed that way so they might as well learn from them.

So what did you guys think of Schumacher's move on Barichello, nearly putting him into the wall?

It was excessive. Good to see Barrichello stick with it, though.

What's the NASCAR way? I haven't watched since I was a kid. :P

Goddamn right. <3 Barrichello. I've been a big fan of him since back when he was giving up the lead for Shumi.

The safety car collects the field, then as soon as the field has caught up to the safety car the pits will open. Pits are only open to lead lap cars first time around. Second time around they are open to the lapped cars. Then you've got another lap before the restart. Obviously the flags can take longer depending on how much cleanup is required.

Also, lapped cars can choose to forgo pitting under yellow and take a wave around, where they effectively get one of their laps back and start at the tail end of the field. The problem is they aren't allowed to pit under the yellow if they choose this option, so if they are in need of fuel/tires they have to pit after the race goes back green. They only choose this option if they're at a track large enough to where they won't go a lap down if they make a green flag stop.

Bottom line is they do a very good job of keeping the field under control and keeping the lapped cars out of the way of the leaders on restarts. It's about as fair as a system as you can get!

F1 obviously is a little different but they can adopt a similar system to ensure that SC periods are fair and orderly.

I think they also need to fix the restart points. The leader shouldn't be able to take off as soon as the SC pulls off... there should be a designated restart line a few hundred meters before the start/finish line and a flag man (or start light system... whatever) should control the restart. Basically, you can't accelerate BEFORE the restart line, and the restart signal will be given at some point within the 50 meters or so after the restart line is crossed by the leader.

Talk about excitement headed into turn 1.

I was very glad to see him win a few last year in the Brawn. His last victories of his career I'm sure.

The NASCAR SC sounds pretty good. It still leaves good room for strategy as well as covering silliness like the last race.

I'm not sure I get how changing the restart point would matter. Isn't that pretty much how it works now? Seems like they accelerate on the pit in line now. They can't pass before pit in can they?

Man I hope not. I would LOVE to see him with a championship. Especially at ripe old age of, what, 39?

That was all kinds of f*cked up. It's not like he's in contention for even a podium, let alone the championship. I was excited for his return at the start of the season, but I'm definitely soured on him after that. Of course, it's not the first time he's done something dirty.

The whole point would be to keep them bunched up until the restart. Right now i think the leader starts accelerating out of the last corner and ends up getting a big jump over the other guys. If the gap between the cars was only 2-3 car lengths as they hit the restart line we'd see some actual jockeying for position as they head off into T1.

I just don't think he'll get another shot. Maybe he could sneak a win out, but I think a championship is totally off the table.

Spa is fantastic. Too bad it's only a shadow of it's former self. Still freaking awesome, though.

Agreed, one of my favorite tracks. Will barely get back from Korea in time to catch the race -- 29 Aug, right? This might have to be a tape delayed race for me -- either way it is a great track.
