When I watch, I just imagine there aren't any Mercs. And I'm pissed Ricciardo bailed out on Red Bull. He'd be more competitive had he stayed.

Red Bull could have been in front of Ferrari if he would have stayed. I don't know if you could blame him for leaving after all he went through last year.

As Hamilton matures, he has grown on me.
He's got class..

Agreed! He deserves a lot of credit and is probably the best F1 driver out there. It’s not his fault that the Mercedes cars are just in a separate league making for a boring season for everyone watching. I’ll bet Lewis is also bored and could use a little more competition. Doesn’t look like it’s gonna happen this year though.

I don't know if some of the midwest F1 fans are aware but there is going to be a Formula 1 festival in Chicago on June 8. Doing demo runs in on the streets around Soldier Field. Music and a bunch of other stuff. Kind of like what they do in other cities. Going to show Canadian GP qualifying on Big Screens. They must be having former drivers doing the demos since the current ones will be in Montreal. I know David Coulthard did some of these events.

it is shocking and sad... i start watching F1 in 84, which is the year he won his 3rd crown.

I was 9 years old and Lauda has become my idol right away.

Unfortunately he retired after the '85 season...

He is always a true racer and a legend

Racecar drivers in his day had balls the size of King Kong and to go through what he did and get back in a racecar again is enough but to perform at the level he did is miraculous!

Now that is a lot of downforce.

Who among the greats would do very well in today's F1 cars?

Senna? Niki? Mansell? Prost? Stewart? Clark?

I would love to see Schumacher driving today's cars.

i bet they'll all doing about the same like everyone else, since today's F1 cars are all about aerodynamic grip. They can't pass regardless your driving skill unless it's a Mercedes vs Williams.

I'll be more curious on how will today's drivers do in the old F1 cars, like those in the 80s or prior.. 3 pedals, no power steering, only "radioc and "water" button on the steering wheel.

pure driving with balls n guts!

I think great drivers would be great drivers no matter what era you put them in. One could argue they may actually be better because they did what they did without modern technology. This can said for most sports that technology and fitness has had a significant impact on. You know who it better Nicholas vs Woods, Babe vs Aaron vs Bonds and the discussion and speculation goes on!
