Not pessimistic but Im more realistic. It will come.

Do you think F1 will survive without Ferrari?
Yes it will... but it would be another race series. I think.

But on the other flip side of a coin...people change, the only constant in this world is CHANGE!

Who would think cars would be running electric and H2O 20 years ago?
Better yet autonomous cars.

I hate living those days. Im happy with NA and manual cars.

I never thought Michael Shumacher would ever drive a Mercedes F1.

But time did for him. I assume he did it for Ross Braun or something else.
Again people change. Nothing is permanent.

I don't think F1 needs Ferrari. I think Ferrari brings a lot (of fans) to the equation. But Liberty has figured out that other teams can bring a lot to the table as well. Ferrari is too old school maybe?

Probably your right Jar. I agree the new young drivers and new motor sport team such as Aston Martin made it exciting but when it happens I would stick with the IMSA race series and WEC.

F1 is freaking expensive tickets anyway. Lol
God-Speed likes this.

Plus he's German. There are several reasons why he'd drive for Mercedes.

Well he did drive for Mclaren....Just as Jenson did...Just as Coulthard did.

There is a fair bit of nationalism that comes along with Formula 1, and in sports in general.

You finding it surprising Schumacher would drive for Mercedes was my reasoning for stating the "obvious". Blissfully undermining the fact he already had a history with Mercedes, the mark being a key proponent behind him even racing in F1.

Ferrari being the most nationalistic of them all. Favoring and supporting Italian drivers whenever they possibly can. Even considering the use of Rossi at some point in time (although just highly speculated rumors) over several veteran and skilled F1 drivers for the sake of having an Italian driver in a Italian car. The majority of their staff and engineers being Italian even in the face of several others countries wanting to be apart of the team. James Allison even hinted at the problems behind Ferrari's nationalistic tyranny.

Agreed. However Ferrari's consistency in the sport is a major reason their status has grown to the level it's at. To be honest, there is nothing special about the brands technical feats in racing. Factory teams of lesser statuses have always came around to pick on them and beat them. But the consistency behind them staying around is one thing no other brand or company in history has the privilege of matching, and will never match. This alone is worth its praise alone. Its hard to root for a team when they are not consistently around, let alone competitive, and Ferrari is the only company that can claim they have been both over decades in the industry.

The majority of their victories has been against privateer teams and even then, they've been beaten by these teams over the years. Several times over whenever other factory teams stepped up to race they could barely keep there dominance alive. Just as Mercedes are doing now. BMW in their short recent stent with Williams gave them a hard run for their money and Mclaren Mercedes even showed them up a couple times even with rookie drivers.
JARblue and axmea? like this.

Yes I Was surprised when he did come back after having 6 titles from Ferrari then drive for Mercedes instead of Ferrari. What Im saying this drivers have a job to do and no brand loyalty nor by it ethnic backgrounds. That is why I said I wont be surprised if Hamilton would drive for Ferrari in the future.

Agreed but why Ferrari did not setforth in giving the seat to an Italian driver? Because they need to have the higher percentage of winning right?

Again the same argument one way or another they will get Hamilton if Sebastian
would not give what the Italians wanted.

The drivers has a job to perform and they will drive with the team with deepest financial chest, aerodynamic technology and the car that will bring them the chance of getting the drivers championship.

Besides Ferrari makes more money than selling cars through their merchandise, sponsorship and TV right exposure. Win or loose they make money with F1. Winning the Championship just makes it more special.

2017 would have Ferrari winning the title if not only the Singaporian incident happend and Ferrari having technical issue
s at the later part of the season.

Yet they still handedly lost the constructors regardless. For years now, people have going on about this "would've, could've, should've" stuff with Ferrari. Just like Hamilton fans and Hamilton did last year by losing out to Rosberg. We can argue this till our faces turn colors about what if's, but Hamilton beat Vettel outright in most situations this year, just as Mercedes beat Ferrari outright in terms of reliability and strategies. You need to finish the race to win. Vettel has cost himself hardship more than the team has.

Ethnicity and nationalism is a huge portion to where people decide to associate themselves with, Schumacher was rightfully retired and on top of all notable statistics. He didn't come back to beat the competition, he came back to rebuild Mercedes as a racing brand, he's even stated this himself several times as did Brawn.

Speaking of brand loyalty. Hamilton would be a posture child for brand loyalty. He's been wearing the Mercedes mark his entire sponsored racing career. There isn't another driver in the world who has been more loyal to a brand. Him going to Ferrari would be a turn of the century. THAT would be the most surprising thing of all. Certainly considering Ferrari representatives have been adamant about not wanting anything to do with Hamilton. So how you are surprised about Schumacher going to Mercedes, but not Hamilton going to Ferrari is beyond me.

We can agree to disagree. This isn't even a fruitful debate lol.
