Will never happen, unfortunately. In CA, they are now using speed cameras at lights and most of them take pictures of the front license plate for identification. That's a growing revenue stream that they won't be interested in taking away, particularly with all of the cameras already installed. More and more cities, counties and states are moving towards speed cameras due to the attractive financial returns and relatively low maintenance costs.

what ever happend to "people's government" lol
i read somewhere here that speed cameras does not hold against court because an officer "needs to be physically present" to witness it
i think its in texas or something which i know has a lot of speed cameras in the freeway

We have cameras, but no front plate laws. They will just angle the cameras differently.
Is that petition even legal? You just type in a name and boom, no proof of address, no proof of being a voter ... ?

Yeah, I don't think that will ever happen either, especially with the plate detection software/cameras that are being installed on the police cruisers, this stuff can sniff out anyone with tickets, no insurance, warrants, expired registration, stolen vehicles, etc.

^^wow is that in cali yet??
i just dont get why other states do not have plate laws but cali has all these rediculous laws for something so unimportant(and yes no need to answer as i know it all boils down to revenue and more money for the state as ocfoilist said...)

Cops can already run plates. This software just makes it easier for them.

Honestly, California transportation infrastructure was built around the car. We are lucky to have extensive highways, and metropolitan areas where cars can actually be driven through in a decent amount of time. In the 60s, California led the way to use an automobile instead of public transportation to proliferate the usage of the automobile. These "ridiculous" laws are meant to protect drivers. I would be extremely happy if this software caught someone who decided to steal my Z (Knock on wood that it doesn't) and my *** was saved because I had a front license plate. Be happy that the revenue raised are going to roads that you drive on. They need maintenance too.

About the roads in front of your house. You'd either have to ask LA county or the city, depending on if your city has its own public works.

I pay taxes too. I also pay taxes on gas, food, sales items, etc just like most hard working people in this country. Its the price we pay for living in American society. Since you started a petition, hopefully you vote as well to "know" where your tax money is being spent. Maybe you should start a petition to fix the road in your city? You'd probably be a lot more successful.

I'm not trying to be an ***. But I sympathize with your grievances about car restrictions. Sure it sucks. But like I said with the front license plate, what if you saw someone hit your car and you couldn't get a plate number because you only saw it from the front? You have a license plate for identification reasons. Sure aesthetics-wise it sucks. But from personal experience, I was lucky enough to have caught someone because they had a front license plate. So IMO I wouldn't ask for them to be taken off because I don't want to drill holes in my front bumper. Maybe they don't have them in other states because the number of cars in California probably outnumber the population in some states, lol.

You're right exhaust notes on a Harley should be just as restricted as a car. However, I must make this note. If you have ever driven a motorcycle, you know damn well you are practically invisible to other drivers. Having that sound helps warn drivers you're there. I have CHP friends who when on their motorcycle still have people swerve into them because they don't see them. It could be why motorcyclist are allowed to have blinking front lights for their safety. Too bad we can't use that reason for ourselves.

Plates are only fix-it tickets so far and I've only been pulled over twice in the past 10 years for plates. Oh well it never hurts to sign. If Arnold can become Governor by promising he won't cut education and people believed him, anything is possible.
