Tire Shop Beware

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to alert you guys to stay away from a particular "discounted" tire shop located on Jamacha Rd. in San Diego. Suffice it to say I had a horrible experience with them. I brought my car in last week to have a tire replaced due to a bubble in my sidewall. They ended up breaking my valve stem adapter as well as my TPMS. On their behalf it is a difficult job since the adapter/tpms is located so close to the edge of the wheel. (AME Shallen MX) They apologized and told me they would fix everything as soon as the parts came in.

Well I took it in today and lo and behold there are scratches, indentations, and a nick that looks as if someone took a chisel to the wheel. There is a piece of metal protruding from where the nick is. The manager Rich said he personally worked on the car and that the nick was there before he worked on it. He decided not to notify me believing I already knew of the problem.

Seeing how upset I was, he said he would have someone call me tomorrow to clean the wheel up on their dime. Now I do not know what "clean up" means but these guys better fix all the imperfections on my wheel. We shall see. I will post better pics tomorrow when there is daylight to show the hack job these guys did.

Before I left, the manager pretty much indicated/said he never wanted to work on my car again due to the high level of difficulty it is to replace my tires. I told him no problem and that I would not be bringing any of my cars to his store again.

Granted they are somewhat trying to make things right, but the fact that they tried to hide the fact they jacked up my wheel is what has me so upset.

So guys if you have aftermarket wheels with TPMS STAY AWAY from these guys!

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. We will definately tell customers to steer clear.

I hate to say it but a large percentage of shops are like this! They don't give a fvck. I always take pics before hand and give my warning statement when I drop off the car. "Please be careful because I am VERY anal and I will let you know if you did something wrong." They look at me funny but I don't give a $hit. Try to find a good shop and take it there and do all the work you can yourself!

yeah pretty much all tire shops will man handle your rims unless you take it to a shop which specializes in high end wheels..

Had the same thing happen to me at a Firestone shop. It's likely from the tire mount they use. Make sure they use a touchless / lever less tire mount. Most of these low end crappy shops still use crowbars with a guy pretty much gouging the crap out of the rim. They had the nerve to say " we change tires on BMW's and Mercedes all the time". Still pisses me off to this day. In the end, I settled for a full refund because I was seconds away from hitting the service manager in the face.

Well the mobile repair guy came by today and now the wheel has to go to their shop to be stripped and refinished. He was able to fix the nick, gash, and scratches but fvcked up the clear coat on the lip. The lip now has this cloudy hazy look to it. His boss is supposed to give me a call once he gets back from SEMA to set something up. I have a feeling it's going to be a b*tch for them to fix since the wheels are 2 piece welded. Anyone here ever have a welded wheel refinished? Do they need to take it apart and weld it back together? I am worried that this will lower the integrity of the wheel.

call Son Tran to fix wheels and call Temple City Auto Repair to for great deals on tires and scuff free wheel install.

Just putting good shops names out there.

yeah the lugs are definately important...i learned the hard way..now i only use kics lugs which can take the impact guns like a champ

Can Son Tran fix curb rash on wheel with an anodized lip? Velvet Touch said it's not possible for a mobile repairman to fix without discoloration/halos in the lip. Apparently wheels with anodized lips need to be stripped and refinished or else the color will look really off.
