Not getting up to temp with oil cooler?

Anyone from SoCal running a 25 core oil cooler have any problems with not getting their cars up to operating temps?

I know it doesn't get that cold here. I am just wondering if I'll be needing an oil cooler with the thermostatic plate.

I am running GTM Comp. Oil cooler kit. Normal driving the oil temperature is about 180. I took it to the canyon run this past Sunday, driving in 2nd and 3rd (mostly in 2nd), and the oil temperature was peaked up around 220. Triple's Z can confirm this. I got the same setup as his

I agree, plus using the thermostatic sandwich plate that comes with the GTM Kit, doesn't allow oil to flow thru the cooler till it gets up normal operating temp ftw!

The GTM has the thermostatic plate though right?
I read on some thread(can't remember which one) that using the oil cooler, the running temperature is too cold without the thermostatic plate during the winter time.

From what I read, the Stillen oil cooler doesn't have the plate. So I was wondering if I would have any problems with running too cold during the winter time without the plate if I go with the Stillen. Although, it doesn't really get cold in LA.

You might want to invest in a thermostatic plate to avoid driving on a cold motor- especially since cooler weather is right around the corner.

That's not to say that a thermostatic plate is the cure to your issues but it would definitely help. With most thermostatic plates, the thermo still allows 10% of the oil in the system to flow through the cooler as to avoid thermostatic shock from cold oil being introduced into the engine.

With a thermostatic plate if you're still unable to get up to operating temps, you should invest in a block-off plate.

Just cover up half the cooler? on those cold mornings

Trips and Zero. Since you both have the GTM with the plate, did you have any problems getting up to operating temps during last winter?
I am trying to get this all sorted out since I want to be able to do the install this Saturday

Also, anyone in the LA area running the Stillen 25 row have any problems running too cold or is it doing just fine.

^ G, I am think of raising up the oil cooler core 1" higher from the mounting plate by adding spacers at the mounting points. I want to keep the fittings higher than where they are. What do you think?

If they aren't rubbing on the plastic shield why bother?

I'm usually up early morning and it's about 60C around here in the morning. It takes about 10 minutes of driving to get the temperature up. It hardly passes 180 in the morning, cruising on the roads or fwy.

xdeslitx, Lou of Amplified is your connection for the oil cooler. He did many installation so he knows what to do.

I kinda figured. I met him at the BBQ and we were kinda talking about it a little. Thanks.

EDIT: I kinda wanted to do install at Fontana Nissan though just so they'll have proof of it and it will be in their records...just so it won't be a hassle if I need any warranty work done.

He did 2 installations that day. I would do it when you are dued for the oil change.
