But thats me, carry on if you guys decide the 1st.

Cerritos meet is late afternoon. If we do the RUN AM time, we should be ok. I'm good any Saturday if it is not conflict with my golf outing.

xdeslitx 08-23-2010 12:08 AM

Any weekene is fine with me too...as zero pointed out the cerritos meet is later in the day

Milenko2121 08-23-2010 12:34 AM

That'd be one hell of a Saturday, waking up early, racing through the canyon, and then having more fun later in the day.

Jamaica 08-23-2010 12:46 AM

ya need to know in advance because of shows. And nopi is next month also

Haha, true, after I got back home I was exhausted after the intense canyon run back.

So might just be best to have it on a second Saturday.

christian370z 08-23-2010 11:16 AM

Ha, I forgot about the Cerritos meet... Man I have to get my head in the game. So lets tentatively make it the 2nd week of every month. If we need to adjust it for a particular month, that can be done on a month to month basis if enough people are not able to make the 2nd week for any reason.

christian370z 08-23-2010 11:19 AM

And finally, does everyone think that 10am is too early or too late? It could always be earlier but I figure that would give everyone some time to get ready and make there way up to Malibu without having to wake up super early.

10am seems nice, not too early to be in a rush, and not too late for any bad traffic.

But that's just my thoughts, gotta hear from others first.

It'll have to be adjusted for Sept. because I think Cerritos meet is in 2nd week for Sept.

Jamaica 08-23-2010 01:42 PM

10 am is good. Just need a date.

Trips 08-23-2010 04:10 PM

The earlier the better, less traffic and less heat for those without Coolers?

zero 08-23-2010 05:02 PM

I think no later than 10am would be good. Hopefully there will be no traffic and PD patrolling. Someone needs to do the trail run on Saturday at 10am and see how the traffic is.

Good point! Reminds me I need to get one.

christian370z 08-23-2010 05:30 PM

So maybe 9am would be better? I don't mind going earlier, I am just trying to be sensitive to those who have to drive a bit to get there. At that time in the morning, the parking lot of the Country Mart off of PCH is almost empty so we could meet there at 9 am, wait for anyone to come in, and then head out anytime between 9:30am and 10am?

As for this september run, how about the 3rd week just to avoid the Cerritos meet?

BTW jamaica, I had to drill a piece off of the amuse front bumper to get the oil cooler to fit. Just FYI, don't be surprised if you have to do the same..

:shakes head: NOOOOOOOOOOOoOOOOO. Which piece?

christian370z 08-23-2010 07:34 PM

Everything is now in the original post. Let me know if any dates conflict and if enough people are not able to make a certain date, we can move it to one that will work for most!

I hope it isn't going to be too warm, otherwise my hood will be up at the rest stops lol.

zero 08-23-2010 07:48 PM

^ Thank you, Christain. Let's make this a safe and fun drive.

Jamaica 08-23-2010 08:07 PM

True. We used to wake up at 6am and got to the meeting place off the 118 by 7am. Trying to start hit the canyon by 8 but usually ended up close to 9. At one time we had at least 40 Z cars. Some of the original Z run photos are in my photo albums.

xdeslitx 08-23-2010 09:07 PM

Im fine with any time...i just hope i can wake up lol

It was Little Tujunga Canyon to Vazquez Rocks Park Run with G37 group this past Sunday. The Overhanging rock is at Vazquez Rocks Park.

I need to check that out. I live in Tujunga LOL
Need to check out big tujunga canyon too...its like 5 mins away from my house.

christian370z 08-24-2010 12:02 AM

So, lets just say that we can try out 9am and then depending on how the roads look, can adjust it for the future. The key I think will be in everyone trying their best to get there by 9am so we can head out shortly after that!

It is my pleasure to put this together; I know there are a ton of Zs around and us Socalers have a pretty strong representation so why the heck not. Besides, one of my favorite parts about owning a particular car is meeting like minded enthusiasts.

tru_Asiatik 08-24-2010 09:57 AM

hope my tires would hold lol...its been a while

christian370z 08-24-2010 02:27 PM

Now you have the perfect excuse to get back into it, I know I can't wait for the first meet! Damn I have to get an oil cooler though.

you should be ok unless you really push the car which i dont recomend on canyons anyways
i usually run about 200-220 max 240 and thats holding a gear too long or straights

djamalt 08-24-2010 10:59 PM

FWIW, I'm in those canyons damn near every weekend and if you're talking about actually arriving in the canyons at 10AM, that's fine. Meeting at 10AM, however, will be too late. Even on my motorcycle I try to head out into the canyons no later than 10am (keep in mind, I can split lanes on the bike).

The problem is more with the traffic on the way out, not so much with traffic heading to or even up in the canyons, although there will be some. It can/has take(n) nearly 2 hours to get from Malibu Canyon Rd to the 10 along PCH on the way home not too long after lunchtime. And that's only a 15 mile drive!!! So I'm loving this thought of meeting at 9am, giving us plenty of time to get in and out and even eat lunch without catching PCH gridlock hell. (Assuming this 9am meet location is no more than 30 min or so from where the canyons begin).

Last weekend I was running as high as 260 - it was unusually hot out there on the valley side of the mtn. But even that didn't seem to bother the Z at all. But as Asiatik says, I wasn't pushing it too hard. Too many cops except on certain roads that most people seem to not know about... heh heh.

D'OH! I just realized my folks are coming to town on the 18th. I'll have to check to see what time they are thinking of getting here to make sure I can hit the canyons then get back to town to meet up with them.

Well, keeping up with you guys will probably be pushing it for me haha. That is good to know that your temps aren't too bad, I haven't really seen mine go past 230 with some hard driving but the ambient temperature wasn't too warm then either.

Canyon Run Returning Home

Sorry for the low quality, I had to fix up the video, and I only had 640x480 to work with, and ended up cropping a lot.
Next time around, I'll see if I can get a better camera.
