Coming to SoCal with new 370 (SMOG?)
Hi Everyone,
We are going to buy a 2010 370Z in maryland and probably move to SoCal this summer. Due to California laws we have to SMOG the car (MD does not have 50 state car). My question is: -Do you think I would have to have anything in the car changed+added to pass smog? (catalytic converter, oxygen sensor...etc) Thanks |

Probably wouldn't hurt to call them and see what/if there is anything you have to have ready before you register the car here. I'd probably call the CA DMV too. You only want to wait in that line 1 time and not ever have to come back! I think they will want to inspect the car before approving.

You didn't mention what types of mods you have. If you have a turbo installed then you will not pass. If you have anything other than stock cats, then you will not pass. Other than that you will be fine. I heard Kinetix makes a passable cat but who knows until you try it.

I bought my Z in Oklahoma and passed Cali's smog test with no problem when registering my car here. Also, the DMV didn't even bother asking for my smog test papers. I'm guessing the test station reported it to the DMV for me?

CORRECTION: (and an apology to "Triple's" for doubting him),
Nissan is a 50 state car, we had spoken with a Nissan rep that wasn't well informed. Up on further search we found the 50 state+Cal ULEV stickers. A more informed rep at Nissan also confirmed the information via the VIN. Thanks everyone. |

I bought my car in Georgia and had Stillen gen3 CAI and Stillen CBE exhaust installed and passed CA's smog test in 2010. You shouldn't have any issues
