Which Gas Brand Do You Use?

Hey guys! I'm about to fill up my Z for the very first time! I was wondering what Premium Gas do you guys use for the Z's? Or does it even matter?

jikhead 04-01-2010 08:03 PM

Nowadays, it doesn't really matter; I'm sure others will disagree with me. Nearly every gas station is using the 10% ethanol thing. The vast majority of gas stations (including gas brands like Texaco, Shell, etc.) get there gas from the same pipeline. Most stations are owned by independent companies or individual owners. Unless you know that the station is corporate owned, will that station be actually using their own gas. So with that said, nearly every gas station in your area...the gas will be the same gas since it all came from the same refinery and pipeline to your area. The trucks are just carriers who transport from A to B. Trust me, I have two friends who own several gas stations and this is how it was explained to me. I can elaborate more for you if need be.

^good to know!

QuikTrip. they are a top tier certified supplier, and on the inexpensive side.

CrownR426 04-01-2010 09:04 PM

true same gas different additives tho ie chevron/techron shell vpower

more expensive/named stations like shell and chevron uses way better additves compare to lower end stations ie costco
they use bare minimum government requirements which overtime could cuase buildup on your engine and hinder performance

ive always been a fan of chevron 93 octaneand been using it since i started driving almost 15 yrs

tbonesteak 04-01-2010 11:18 PM

I always use Chevron

SoCal 370Z 04-01-2010 11:18 PM

I only use the recommended Nissan Premium, by Nissan, and I only use the recommended Nissan Ester oil too, by Nissan. The Nissan Premium fuel is hard to find even though I am in Southern California because only few Nissan dealerships pump it.

Dustin@AEperformance 04-02-2010 12:47 AM

I've always been a Union 76 guy...but to each their own!

Chriz 04-02-2010 12:50 AM

I only use shell considering there is one right across my neighborhood

lifeztream 04-02-2010 01:47 AM

91 octane ONLY?

corner3garage 04-02-2010 04:42 PM

chevron or shell

boostedz 04-04-2010 01:52 PM

chevron!

ZCarMan 04-04-2010 06:43 PM

Chevron or Texaco w/Techron for me.

Jamaica 04-04-2010 09:52 PM

Chevron 91 all the way

CervanteZ 04-04-2010 10:10 PM

Supreme w/Techron Chevron.

KingZee 04-05-2010 03:00 PM

I prefer Chevron but I've done 76 for a long time because it seems to be the cheapest around my part of town...Chevron seems to be the most expensive?

phelan 04-05-2010 03:10 PM

Chevron Supreme w/ Techron FTMFW

ncheung85 04-06-2010 01:25 AM

Chevron or 76 (91) only filled it up twice lol

vipor 04-06-2010 08:33 AM

Why is there no poll?

In Order: Shell, Texaco, Chevron, Exxon. 93 Octane.
Not sure about Exxon, but the first 3 are pretty much the same, if not exactly the same.

I will not use any other brands, especially ones like Race Track or the Tom Thumb gas.

370Z JT 04-07-2010 12:45 AM

wow so I filled up with Chevron 91 today, and it took $56 to fill up. Ouch! Did some math and my MPG is just under 17. Seems really low b/c I've been driving really conservative breaking in the engine.

But I did get a "nice car!" from a random chick while filling up! FTW!

vipor 04-07-2010 09:44 AM

Your MPG will improve through time. I get over 19mpg now very consistently with a fairly heavy foot. I think my last fillup showed 21mpg.

I use GasCubby on my iPhone to keep track.

j.arnaldo 04-07-2010 10:21 AM

1. Shell
2. Texaco
Both premium---93-octane juice! Oh, and btw, I get 2 weeks out of a tankfull; I really don't know the MPG I'm gettin'.

Jeffblue 04-07-2010 10:54 AM

if you aren't doing highway driving, you are going to get poor gas mileage. on my altima i get 24 mpg on a 2.5L CVT (average) and i don't drive particularly fast. but if you are averaging around 20 you are doing great considering how much more power the Z has.

phelan 04-07-2010 11:15 AM

hahaha i'm getting 23 mpg...i'm really feathering the car right now :D

You still have 93 octane fuel? I'm jealous.

370Zsteve 04-07-2010 01:11 PM

91 or 93 octane, no difference in a car that requires 91.

In the last 2 months or so I've filled with (in no particular order), Mobil, Coastal, Sunoco, Citgo.

No difference between any of them, all are 93 octane. The Coastal and Citgo are always cheapest. Thank you Mr Chavez!

j.arnaldo 04-07-2010 01:34 PM

Nissan gasoline??? C'mon, dude!

tru_Asiatik 04-07-2010 08:34 PM

my mpg has become shitty overtime i averaging 14mpg mostly city if im lucky 17 with some highway :(

vipor 04-08-2010 09:58 AM

Wow that's terrible. Filled up this morning and showed 20.4mpg on my last tank. Got about 360 miles.. I think 335 before the warning even showed. I've been doing a little more aggressive VDC-off driving too, tires are getting slicker heh.

I'm usually around 19mpg, I drive it pretty aggressively with not much highway time.

gttsome 04-21-2010 10:00 PM

Gaaaaaas

Union 76 is my grab for octane, but one should look for the best fuel tank filters which move fast on the fill-up, so if you fuel up and it takes a while to get a a few drops, you will have goobers in you tank. I take a fuel cocktail with me when I fuel (octane boost, a vodka martini for you car, kinda-sorta) and if the pump runs fast I skip a few tanks from a juice drink because "Me" getting good stuff, however if the fuel pump runs slow I cut it off quick dump in some octane and go to the next pump store. With an 11 to 1 compression stroke, poop-poop fuel is not friendly to our 3.7 engines.

fullmonty 04-22-2010 06:04 AM

I go to Hess its local

fxroar 04-22-2010 05:12 PM

91 Shell/Chevron.

Can't find any 93 around my area (92126)

If there's a gas station that offers.. let me know! :icon17:
