Moving to california
Hello fellow Z owners
I'm thinking of changing jobs and moving to Southern Cali from NJ. I do not know any areas in Cali other than the little tv that i watch What is a good place to live that rent is reasonable for 1 person and that my Z will be safe? Also, have a good night life and things to do? BTW, I'm a 25 year old Mechanical Engineer. Thank you in advance? |

Beach cities, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach. In order of cheapest to most expensive

Have no idea on your price range.. But as far as beautiful safe cities go, Villa Park, Huntington, Orange, Irvine, Anaheim Hills (Not Anaheim), Laguna, San Clemente, San Diego, San Juan Capistrano, Escondido, Irvine are most of my favorites from living there my whole life. Night life in San Diego is far above the rest. Probably the most laid back/busy downtown you've been to. If I had a job opportunity out there I would strive to make it happen. One of the most relaxing places to be and theres generally very friendly people who have money.
Honestly, as a former Southern Californian, my favorite place to be is by a big fire or heater down by the ocean. Beer in hand and hopefully some hot beach babe thats caught your attention. Oh yeah, thats another thing... the women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. Good luck! Hope I helped

Beach cities are boarderline more or less out of your range then haha. 1bed 1bath apartments usually are $1500-$2000 lmao.
I have a studio in Torrance, although is a 400-450sqft studio with walk-in closet and full kitchen, its $925/mo. That is the cheapest place in Torrance as well. I would also ask around with the locals and figure out any sort of street boundaries that mark a huge rent increase. I know in Torrance we have a street called Prairie and anything on the East side of it is $300-$500 less per month than anything on the West side. Some places are weird like that. If you get a job anywhere near the LA area, hit me or Depointfive0 up. We live near the beach over there and have finagled it to be cheaper. WARNING: might wanna keep some of the winter NJ clothes, from what I understand the east coast has been in the 70's and 80's most of the winter. That is usually how it is here in CA for winter. Where I live, being 5 miles from the beach, it hasn't gone over 60F during the day, usually sits 50-55F and goes down to 35-40F during the evening. Usually sits about 40F, depends on wind chill. But it has been an unusually cold winter over here. Not rainy or anything just cold lol. Although it is forecasted to get much hot humid rain once the El Nino fully hits.

Move to the San Fernando Valley, cities such as Burbank, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Toluca Lake, Woodland Hills, Universal City, North Hollywood among others are great. The Valley is not far from Downtown, is also close to the beaches and its not segregated like the rest of the areas mentioned above.

Gotta take care of your own! Just glad to have another addition to the Socal Community!
I know my apartment complex rents out 1 or 2 units every other month or so, people coming in and out as of recently. But there have been tenets of up to 20-25 years and anywhere in between

Socal is a large place. Do you know where your job would likely be located? Traffic patterns dictate travel times more than raw distance.
for los angeles: If you want something close to nightlife, korea-town is not bad and a pretty good value, or hipster regions like silverlake, atwater village, echo park, or north hollywood are really trendy. Downtown and the beach cities are nice, but out of your price range. Torrance and the rest of the SFV are more sprawl. The metro system isn't too bad and I would recommend considering location to the stops when looking for a place. |
