Default front license plate law cvc. 5200

So currently, there is an officer in my campus who is directly targeting me for front license plate tickets. I don't know what I did to piss him off, but there are plenty of other students leaving the front license plate on the dash and not getting a ticket. The way I placed my license plate is at the visor, which is in compliance to cvc 5200.

I understand that he is doing his job, but seriously..

Here is the license plate in question.

Maybe you ****** his daughter? I don't know. I'm sure the guy's not standing around with a tape measure but if he really wanted to screw you I guess he MIGHT be able to write you up for this?

5201. (a) License plates shall at all times be securely fastened to
the vehicle for which they are issued so as to prevent the plates
from swinging, shall be mounted in a position so as to be clearly
visible, and so that the characters are upright and display from left
to right, and shall be maintained in a condition so as to be clearly
legible. The rear license plate shall be mounted not less than 12
inches nor more than 60 inches from the ground, and the front license
plate shall be mounted not more than 60 inches from the ground
...

Other than that, what has he actually written you up for?

There's no way the visor on the Z is higher than 60" off the ground. Total bull$hit. I would find out who his boss is and go talk to them. Or just go straight to the police department if they're not under university security. If someone is giving out tickets for non-ticketable offenses on the behalf of the local PD, they will certainly want to take care of it.

This argument has gone on for years.

Attaching the lic plate anywhere other than the front of the car is viewed as a violation.

You should just get a Stillen lic plate holder for the front and be compliant.

Accept your on his radar and unless you're going to lawyer up? Move on no reason to make it more than it is unless you have plenty of $$$.

I just got a ticket, and the cop said "you don't have a front plate" and I replied "we don't require them in Texas" to which he said "we're in California now, you have to abide by CA laws"

LOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLL... Sure... If that was the case every cop should sit on the border of AZ and nail every guy with tint.

Yeah, I guess I don't really have a choice. I did turn in an appeal form with reasons why it would be legal according the the law, will have to wait two more weeks to find out!

cvc. 5200 (correction required) - comment: missing front plate. The funny part is, they give tickets for missing parking permit, so he obviously saw my "front" plate (which is directly above my permit).

His wife wanted it! I only provided my services.

The campus police over here literally have nothing to do, I guess.

I'm not part of this system! But yeah, I believe you're right though. Guess I'll just have to pay the $20 fine and get it installed in the front again. But first, I want to see if my appeal form holds up.

The cops should be worrying about other things than giving people tickets for missing front license plates

That is complete bull$hit. If you have out of state plates, you have to abide by the rules out of state. If you establish residency in the state, you should be getting new plates for that state.

Exactly! Can you imagine the backlash from the tourism industry if CA cops started writing tickets for all their ridiculously stupid requirements to out of state visitors who are from states where those requirements do not apply?

Yep that is true.

OP, just find Mr. Po Po's privately owned vehicle and swap his plates with someone elses. All you need is a phillips and a lookout buddy.

Yea, I can be bad at times.....real bad

I'm done going against the grain. Too much attention as it is. No tint and plates on the front. Got stopped for plates in Northridge, CA by an officer who made a left turn as I was headed towards him and I saw him next to me two blocks after seeing him make the turn. He clearly went out of his way to follow me about not having plates. I gave him a lame excuse about someone trying to steal my bracket and that just pissed him off. No fix it tkt given but hate dealing with zealots who does not have better things to do. Just put it on and not worry about it. You'll get used to it.

My plate and bracket are in the trunk, if an officer want to go out of his way to give me **** about it, i can just put it on then and there. No need for a fix it ticket.
