Went and got my own estimate today just to see how close to the 10k limit we would be, and to help decide which way to go.

I'm at 5.6k by myself of the 10k without them taking off the bumper to see the full extent of the damage.

The g/f's car has damage to both front and back, so that made that decision pretty easy. We'd exhaust that 10k between the two of us before we even got to the rental cars for a few weeks worth of downtime.

I went and got two quotes today. The first one didn't seem all that excited about having to do a quote that they felt was useless because the insurance company would have to do their own quote later. The second shop listened to my situation and was more than willing to write me up a proper quote. They also immediately identified the damage to the rear quarter panels and showed me where you could clearly see the damage if you know where to look. Something the first shop did not. That made it very easy. The first shop wanted to work for the insurance company and do whatever they said. The second shop wanted to work for me and make sure my car got fixed right.

The second shop saw the above ^^ and needless to say, in addition to the quarter panels it is where it differs from the first shop significantly. The first shop couldn't even be bothered to take the interior piece off that was barely hanging on. It may be hard to tell from the picture, but that is inside the hatch area by the spare tire. The rear shell of the car is pushed in significantly.

State Farm feels confident that they should be able to get us the deductible money before our cars are finished. Official estimate is scheduled for Wed, and the estimate is that it should take 10 business days. So if all goes well, I should have my car back by Christmas.

Great news! After that we need to have a special meet where we go find the person that did this to you. :bowrofl:

Good to hear you're making the right progress on this. Good luck and post pics when the cars are all clean and finished. :)

Well, Sanford Paint and Body finished a day ahead of schedule and their work is immaculate. Grand total was around $5760. The real major work was that they had to cut off the frame extensions and the rear piece and weld new ones in. Having new pieces in there gives me a lot more peace of mind for any future accidents.

As for the g/f's car, hers is going to be a bit longer still. It seems that despite the rear bumper of her car not looking too bad, the inside was all mangled. Her total is over 10k already.

I am so glad to be out of the rental car. I had a Dodge Charger...the one nice thing was people did tend to get out of my way and stop speeding.

On to the pictures.

"They tended to get out of my way and stop speeding" hahahaha that's awesome. Glad it's all working out. Did their insurance end up paying all of the bill or no?

I had to pay my deductible, so still waiting on State Farm to reimburse me. I also had to pay out of pocket to have my emblem re-shaved and to get a small ding taken out of my driver's side fender.

On the plus side, the annoying drone I had at 3k rpm is completely gone. The car has been put back together tighter than when it was new.

It is my dream to one day be outside when the guy that keeps throwing those crap newspapers on my driveway to be driving by. I keep those there for ammo, so that when I see him I can throw one of those news papers back at him. That or I'm too lazy to pick them up until I roll out the trash can for trash day.

Huck 12-20-2013 09:44 AM

I actually got to do that once! They were always leaving some kind of local free gazette paper on my driveway and I kept calling them telling them I didn't want it. They kept throwing them.

Finally one morning I came home at like 4am and found this dude in a creepy old station Wagon slowly creeping up my street, throwing papers. I passed him, parked in my driveway, and picked up the three of them that were laying there. When he got to my driveway and threw another one I chucked them all back in his window and told him to fck off with his crappy paper.

It worked. I haven't seen him again.
