Performance shop in Charlotte, NC area?

I've got some HFC's on the way and after reading some of the nightmare stories, I'm considering having a shop do the install. I'd have to buy some beefier tools anyway if I wanted to tackle it myself so I'm figuring it's about the same cost either way.

Seems like it should take a shop 45 minutes to an hour for the install but I can't find a one that has worked on a 370 yet. Right now I've been quoted for 2 hours at $75/hour. For that price, I'd rather do it myself.

So anyone know of a shop in the Charlotte area that could do the work in about an hour? Or better yet, anyone in the area done this install and want to lend a hand in exchange for pizza and beer?

Cool thanks man. Any shops in particular that you have experience with or would recommend? I actually decided I'm going to try this install myself but it'll be good to know of a shop in case I fail miserably. Hopefully I don't run into as many problems as I've heard about...

its basic simple bolt ons but need to disconnect the battery and remove the oxygen sensor and switch hfc and connect the oxygen sensor start the car and let it idle for 5 mins and rev it couple of times to get the oxygen sensor flowing good

Yeah it sounds easy on paper but I've seen a lot of people struggle to break loose a couple of the bolts. We'll see how it goes.

Well if you want to meet up and hear mine after I install them let me know. Might help you make your decision. Also I can lend a hand with your install if you want...assuming I don't screw mine up :p

fatcat777 02-17-2010 08:22 AM

sounds good. If you want a hand just let me know, as long as i'm not tied with the wife. What brand did you go with? I was leaning towards the berk, but now i think i'm going to just get the FI resonated ones.

I just can't make up my mind on a cat back...

Sharif@Forged 02-17-2010 08:49 AM

It's one of those jobs that looks really easy on the surface but can be extremely frustrating and time consuming. Many of the bolts used to hold the cats are incredibly tight and require significant persuasion to break free, using some good extensions, universals, and impact tools.

Cool thanks! My buddy is coming over so I think we'll have it covered. I decided to give ERZ a chance. Hard to pass up such a low price. You can't go wrong with Berk or FI. Both look to be very high quality. That's what I wanted but I cheaped out :rofl2:

For the cat back, I'm planning on going with FI. That Berk does sound awesome in the vids though...

Yeah that seems to be the case with every job I attempt :rofl2: My buddy and I joke about tripling the time people say it's going to take. Usually it turns out to be about right for us :( I've already assembled the Frankentool and I'm ready for battle :eekdance:

fatcat777 02-17-2010 11:40 AM

i just really don't want the Hisssssss sound from non resonated cats so i'm probably going to just spend the extra and get the FI ones. I'm torn between the FI, Berk, and ARK cat backs. the ARK sounds nice and deep.

Yeah I'm hoping the hiss isn't too obnoxious. I'd like to see some dynos of the ARK exhaust.

Sure thing  Looks like I might be sending my HFC back to ERZ for a little grinding. The tubing wasn't flush with the flanges on the inlets. So it might be another couple weeks until I get them installed :(

My replacements should be here on Monday. I'm going to do the install myself. I won't be able to get any videos up until next weekend though.

fatcat777 02-27-2010 03:30 PM

went with FI with carbon cans amd HFC. gonna be over a month wait, but it will be worth it.

Nice choice! Are you getting the resonated HFC's? I'm pretty sure I'm getting the FI cat back but I won't have the cash until June. You'll have to let me hear it when you get it. It's gonna sound so good

Yea i went back and forth, but i feel i made the best choice. If I ever do go FI i'll supercharge so i'm not too worried about it not working down the road. I didn't go resonated HFC, with a 18" resonator there is no need, unless i want super quiet. If it's not loud enough then i'll go with 12" resonators.

I should have the cats in 2 weeks, i'll go ahead and install them since i know it's going to be a pain in the ***. Hopefully in 6 weeks my cat back will be here, I can't wait to see those big *** carbon cans. Sure you can hear it to make sure you like the sound.

fatcat777 02-27-2010 08:19 PM

why is that?

fatcat777 02-27-2010 08:25 PM

i have no clue why they changed shirt colors lol. I haven't worked there in over 12 years. detailer was red shirt, managers wore brown shirts. The main manager had a nice dark blue shirt. We were never allowed to wear shorts no matter the tempature, which sucked, but we used to have hoodies in the winter. They did away with the hoodies cause it looked "ghetto" they said.

fatcat777 02-27-2010 08:29 PM

oh why didn't i run my cars through. I don't like the scratches man, plus i dug too many fallen cars out of the pit. I've seen it all working there.

thezmonster 02-27-2010 08:31 PM

yea yea true that

puckshaw 03-01-2010 09:27 PM

Installed my HFC's tonight. Had to go it alone but it went pretty good and I'm really happy with them so far. Let me know if anyone needs a hand with installing theirs. It would have been so much easier with a second person!

fatcat777 03-01-2010 09:36 PM

awesome man, how does it sound? I should have mine in a couple weeks, but since the wait it so long i'm going to have to find something else to mod. Maybe my headlights

Sounds great! I wasn't expecting it to make too much of a difference but it sounds friggin awesome. Not real loud but so much better than stock. Can't wait to get a cat back to really let her sing :)

Let me know if you need a hand with the headlights too. I did mine already.
