Syria: Chemical weapons
What do you feel is going to come of this and what do you think is going to occur, even within the next few days?
They say the civil war in Syria began in early 2011, and al-Assad has since been adding more and more fuel to the fire. It is astonishing how quickly this "war" has grown in such short time, and now this, just sickening. |
At the risk of beginning a political discussion, I'm not sure why the US should do a damn thing. Bad things are going to happen in the world, especially that part of the world. It's not our job to police everything.

Agree, but within a discussion I was having last night, can the U.S. just be a bystander and watch as another smaller country crumbles? Just seeing how stock prices are going to fall gas prices set to rise.. it seems no matter where something bad occurs it drastically effects us. |

I am very torn on this. I really don't know WHERE those barrels came from. I would HOPE we are not giving weapons to our "enemy".
|
I'm just tired of our need to play referee in every internal conflict in third world **** holes. And we wonder why half the world hates us. We've got enough issues locally. Maybe stop the cartel violence along our southern border before we go out looking for trouble thousands of miles away?

Chuck you nailed it, brother. Without telling a sob story, I handed out $5.5 million dollars cash in Iraq during reconstruction and humanitarian relief. Then I came home, and the nation was $12 Trillion in debt. I felt like (and still feel like) a traitor to my nation. I hope we continue to focus on domestic issues, and technological advances here at home. |

Trying to not make this a political talk... |

It's not like any of us thought they weren't listening to our calls and reading our emails for years now. |

Honestly, my first reaction to the news about the NSA was to be shocked that there were people who had thought it wasn't happening.

I think its got more to do with the idea of "perpetual warfare". When 1 crisis ends, another is begun or created, whether its an actual war or a proxy war (which IMO is what the Syria conflict has become). Not to get anywhere near the conspiracy theory stuff, but the military industrial complex does have a major contributing factor to our economic status.
We don't need to be involved, but the Gov will make us feel like we should be. Or at least they will try. |

99% of our problems as a country could be solved with draconian campaign finance reform. Stop the money, stop the self serving career politicians on the take. Goddamn Citizens United ruling.

As an aside, I really think this forum should have a place for political discussion provided we kept everything civil. It's always an interesting discussion.
|
Too bad Congress members won't ever hurt their own careers with reform campaign laws. And so many people lately are talking about a revolution here, blah blah blah, there's no way in heck that would bring a balance of power. Power corrupts, plain and simple.
Way off topic, so Syria?! What a cluster F. |
Syria is lucky they have oil, because that means we'll get involved. We don't care about your internal problems unless you've got oil. If it was subsaharan Africa no one would do a damn thing.

Damned if we do, damned if we don't. At this point, we should just take our ball and go home. Let everyone's problems be their problems.

I think it's got more to do with Syria being backed so hard by Iran. I wouldn't expect to much extra supply given to Al Qaeda, er cough cough, the "rebels". I guess the Admin is confident they can scare Assad into submission with a short term bombing campaign. Better that than soldiers on the ground and more weapons changing hands. F'in oil...
|
Yep. We've got to pick between Iran or Al Qaeda. It's always a **** sandwich over there since Iran/Iraq, USSR/Afghanistan, etc. No matter which horse you back, you end up ankle deep in ****.

BTW, no one has mentioned Israel, yet:stirthepot: |

True that, moving on then!
I think it's a crying shame that the media is so far left that they sweep under the rug the fact that the rebels are Al Qaeda for the most part. Doing so keeps more of the dumb masses from realizing that we'd be aiding the terrorist group we've been fighting for over a decade... |
But there's bad things happening on the TV! We've got to do something! There's children over there!
