Syria: Chemical weapons

What do you feel is going to come of this and what do you think is going to occur, even within the next few days?

They say the civil war in Syria began in early 2011, and al-Assad has since been adding more and more fuel to the fire. It is astonishing how quickly this "war" has grown in such short time, and now this, just sickening.

Chuck33079 08-28-2013 09:35 AM

At the risk of beginning a political discussion, I'm not sure why the US should do a damn thing. Bad things are going to happen in the world, especially that part of the world. It's not our job to police everything.

Very true, and hard not to relate this to politics, but...

Agree, but within a discussion I was having last night, can the U.S. just be a bystander and watch as another smaller country crumbles?

Just seeing how stock prices are going to fall gas prices set to rise.. it seems no matter where something bad occurs it drastically effects us.

I agree with you 100%.. but gasing your own people, its wrong, its soo wrong, I think we need to bomb him and his military back to the stone age, then let them figure it out for themselves. Having an international coalition is key though.

Let the UN handle it. We'll help as a member, but this doesn't need to be just our problem. And our "help" should consist of cruise missles and drones. No boots on the ground in another desert. We've been playing that game for too long.

I couldnt agree with you more...

madwi 08-28-2013 09:46 AM

I am very torn on this. I really don't know WHERE those barrels came from. I would HOPE we are not giving weapons to our "enemy".

Chuck33079 08-28-2013 09:47 AM

I'm just tired of our need to play referee in every internal conflict in third world **** holes. And we wonder why half the world hates us. We've got enough issues locally. Maybe stop the cartel violence along our southern border before we go out looking for trouble thousands of miles away?

^This.

Chuck you nailed it, brother. Without telling a sob story, I handed out $5.5 million dollars cash in Iraq during reconstruction and humanitarian relief. Then I came home, and the nation was $12 Trillion in debt. I felt like (and still feel like) a traitor to my nation.

I hope we continue to focus on domestic issues, and technological advances here at home.

No boots on the ground is right! We are NOT a world police. I don't mind helping the international community but our guys don't always have to be getting shot at.

Trying to not make this a political talk...

You're right, I cant refute that.. ultimately, I think we all know, we are going to bomb the hell out of this country, and fricken gas prices ARE gonna go up, the whole deal just suucks!

I can assure you, the US will not have any boots (i.e. soldiers) on the ground.. although, thats not necissarily true, we do have intel sources in syria doing their thing inside of syria.

You know, when I hear the crap the NSA pulls on us collecting data...I can't help but think they just might know something the general public doesn't, which is what they do best to begin with lol. It's hard to know who is blowing smoke up my rear these days. Don't get me wrong I LOVE my country 100%! Damn it if there isn't things that make me go hmmm who do we support though?!?

Man, but you know.. me personally, if the NSA wants to listen to my phone calls...whatever, I mean, Im not talking about terror attacks or other BS like that, so I have nothing to worry about.. thats just me though, I dont have nothing to hide or anything to be embarrassed about..

I'm against it in principle. The whole "I'm not doing anything wrong" argument is a slippery slope from a constitutional perspective.

It's not like any of us thought they weren't listening to our calls and reading our emails for years now.

yeah, thats true...

Chuck33079 08-28-2013 10:19 AM

Honestly, my first reaction to the news about the NSA was to be shocked that there were people who had thought it wasn't happening.

6spd 08-28-2013 10:21 AM

I think its got more to do with the idea of "perpetual warfare". When 1 crisis ends, another is begun or created, whether its an actual war or a proxy war (which IMO is what the Syria conflict has become). Not to get anywhere near the conspiracy theory stuff, but the military industrial complex does have a major contributing factor to our economic status.

We don't need to be involved, but the Gov will make us feel like we should be. Or at least they will try.

It's not even a conspiracy. Conspiracy implies that it's covert. It's pretty damn clear that the companies who profit from wars are donating generously to reelection campaigns.

Where's the fist bump smilie?

Chuck33079 08-28-2013 10:29 AM

99% of our problems as a country could be solved with draconian campaign finance reform. Stop the money, stop the self serving career politicians on the take. Goddamn Citizens United ruling.

Chuck33079 08-28-2013 10:32 AM

As an aside, I really think this forum should have a place for political discussion provided we kept everything civil. It's always an interesting discussion.

6spd 08-28-2013 10:38 AM

Too bad Congress members won't ever hurt their own careers with reform campaign laws. And so many people lately are talking about a revolution here, blah blah blah, there's no way in heck that would bring a balance of power. Power corrupts, plain and simple.

Way off topic, so Syria?! What a cluster F.

Chuck33079 08-28-2013 10:43 AM

Syria is lucky they have oil, because that means we'll get involved. We don't care about your internal problems unless you've got oil. If it was subsaharan Africa no one would do a damn thing.

It's not "grown" in a short time. It's that the MSM has been promoting Obama's domestic crap instead of paying attention to this issue. Now he and his admin are in crisis mode getting ready to help Al Qaeda (our enemy) take down Assad. WTF???:inoutroflpuke:

Chuck33079 08-28-2013 10:48 AM

Damned if we do, damned if we don't. At this point, we should just take our ball and go home. Let everyone's problems be their problems.

6spd 08-28-2013 10:52 AM

I think it's got more to do with Syria being backed so hard by Iran. I wouldn't expect to much extra supply given to Al Qaeda, er cough cough, the "rebels". I guess the Admin is confident they can scare Assad into submission with a short term bombing campaign. Better that than soldiers on the ground and more weapons changing hands. F'in oil...

Chuck33079 08-28-2013 10:54 AM

Yep. We've got to pick between Iran or Al Qaeda. It's always a **** sandwich over there since Iran/Iraq, USSR/Afghanistan, etc. No matter which horse you back, you end up ankle deep in ****.

That's because that's the point where this thread will turn from civil discussion to monkeys throwing poo at each other. It is borderline impossible to have a rational discussion about Israel and our backing of them.

6spd 08-28-2013 11:03 AM

True that, moving on then!

I think it's a crying shame that the media is so far left that they sweep under the rug the fact that the rebels are Al Qaeda for the most part. Doing so keeps more of the dumb masses from realizing that we'd be aiding the terrorist group we've been fighting for over a decade...

Chuck33079 08-28-2013 11:07 AM

But there's bad things happening on the TV! We've got to do something! There's children over there!
