Syria: Chemical weapons

I think its got more to do with the idea of "perpetual warfare". When 1 crisis ends, another is begun or created, whether its an actual war or a proxy war (which IMO is what the Syria conflict has become). Not to get anywhere near the conspiracy theory stuff, but the military industrial complex does have a major contributing factor to our economic status.

We don't need to be involved, but the Gov will make us feel like we should be. Or at least they will try.

It's not even a conspiracy. Conspiracy implies that it's covert. It's pretty damn clear that the companies who profit from wars are donating generously to reelection campaigns.

99% of our problems as a country could be solved with draconian campaign finance reform. Stop the money, stop the self serving career politicians on the take. Goddamn Citizens United ruling.

As an aside, I really think this forum should have a place for political discussion provided we kept everything civil. It's always an interesting discussion.

Too bad Congress members won't ever hurt their own careers with reform campaign laws. And so many people lately are talking about a revolution here, blah blah blah, there's no way in heck that would bring a balance of power. Power corrupts, plain and simple.

Syria is lucky they have oil, because that means we'll get involved. We don't care about your internal problems unless you've got oil. If it was subsaharan Africa no one would do a damn thing.

I think it's got more to do with Syria being backed so hard by Iran. I wouldn't expect to much extra supply given to Al Qaeda, er cough cough, the "rebels". I guess the Admin is confident they can scare Assad into submission with a short term bombing campaign. Better that than soldiers on the ground and more weapons changing hands. F'in oil...

Yeah but its way bigger than Syria. The Saudis have a lot of influence over our gov, and I wouldn't doubt for a minute that they'd threaten oil supplies to get us involved. They are backing the rebels.
