Need someone to do this experiment
I do not have a polarizer and this experiment calls for two..
Hold a polarizer ( by that I mean a device with two polarized glass or plastic pieces.....isnt that how they are made ??) .. between your eye and a light source and turn one glass until no light passes through..Hold it there...Do not change it....now put another single polarized glass or plastic between you and the first polarizer and see if you can turn it until you again see the light,.,. Please let me know if you can see the light through the third polarizer... I am told you will be able to see it but I want to make sure Thanks Last edited by RiCharlie; 08-18-2013 at 08:29 AM. |

Ummmmm... That sounds wrong...
1 polarizer in any direction will yield light coming through, add a second one and rotate, and light will go dim, then black You can do it with polarized sunglasses

I seem to be having difficulty expressing myself ...let me try this way..you have a light source,.,A... and then three pieces of polarized glass or plastic put two between your eye and the light source and rotate them in such a way as to stop all the light from coming through,,. as you just indicated ...,.then put the third piece between your eye and the two other polarizers..not changing them .. and see it you can rotate the third in such a way as to once again see the light,.. Whew!! Last edited by RiCharlie; 08-18-2013 at 08:27 AM. |

Polarizing filters don't actively polarize light - they block those rays that aren't oriented properly and allow the correctly oriented rays to pass through.

The filters are not "twisting" the light passing through them, they are blocking the "wrong" waves. There is no way to "reconstruct" what isn't there. Search for "optical bench" or "photo polarizer" to find places that sell filters, jigs, &c. You may be able to find some "filters" that actually twist the waves but they won't be photographic/sunglasses filters.

You're SOL, got burglarized a few years... I guess some were stolen... I only have 1 as well as 1 pair of polarized glasses.

Dirac Three Polarizers Experiment
Again, neither place I have quoted is that same as yours, they have a 45 degree turned polarizer in the MIDDLE, 0-45-90, not 0-90-90
