Default Recording exhaust sounds on a 1/4 mile run

Not strictly photography, but you guys might know what I need.

I'm working on a project that requires me to record the interior and exterior (rear - exhaust) sounds of various cars while doing a quarter-mile sprint.

Wind noise is an obvious problem, along with my general lack of knowledge of microphone brands and types. I don't suppose any of you could tell me:

1) What microphone I should be looking at for the exhaust recording?
2) On the assumption the mic is small, where it's best to attach it to capture the truest exhaust sound without being drowned out by wind noise?
3) What a good mic for cockpit recording would be?
4) If any of you own a Lamborghini Aventador? Haha That's gonna be a BITCH to find.

Please keep in mind a VERY modest budget - the cheapest stuff that'll get the job done is all I need.

Thanks in advance for your help

I don't know a whole lot about recording sound either, but B&H has a ton of stuff to choose from when I visited there store. For my GoPro & Camcorder, I wrap what I can with windscreen/windsock foam to reduce noise. Very cheap, so I would try that first. I have come to the conclution that you really need professional gear to capture all the engine music and not the noise. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

That's cool, thanks Mike. I've been having a look around and discovered some mics that might do the trick (RDE Microphones - Browse our microphones). Might give one of those a go.
