Any 50mm is a must...

Can't go wrong with either lens ^_^

You probably already got the lens by now but I would have to say I'm pretty satisfied with my AF Nikkor 35mm f/2 lens. I'm using it on D700 though so results will vary. Here is a pic of my car from march before any editing was done. It is currently one of my favorite lenses

It's actually really hard to say what lens to go with, for your first prime 50mm is definalty the choice. Its the "standard" All Around Lense for photography. If you get one with <2.0L youll achieve great DOP and great night shots, 35mm really wouldn't be that big of a difference from the 50mm. I would go for a 24mm if you want wide shots. I use my Canon 24-70mm 2.8L for Everything in-between. And use the 14mm 2.8L for Super Wide, and 85mm 1.2L for telephoto. Anything over 85mm for portraits is doing too much (imho).

id rather have a 35mm. 50 is ok but it sucks when you're working in a tight space.

I think 50 is a better output, DEPENDING on if you have a full frame or cropped sensor, I think for a smaller crop the ratio is like an 85.

I only shoot 85mm 1.2 PRIME L

I have a Canon, and I use the 15-85 a lot. If you have the Nikon 18-105 or even the 18-55 just see what you have preferred in the kind of photos you've taken already, or set the lens to 35 and 55 and shoot for a while without zooming to see what you prefer.

Not the same since the aperture is a lot faster with the prime lens, but I get what your trying to say.

Alright guys, I ordered the 50mm Nikkor 1.4G. I had a hard time choosing between the Sigma 1.4 50mm or the Nikkor but I decided I didn't want to deal with and front or back focusing that the Sigma is known for and that the Nikkor is a bit sharper at large aperatures.

Should get it by Wednesday! So excited.

k20z3 10-10-2011 09:48 PM

Both a great lens's, you will enjoy your 50... back focus is common, don't let that dissuade you.

christian370z 10-11-2011 01:13 AM

Thanks K20! I tried shooting with my kit lens at 35mm and 50mm just to get an idea of how the two focal lengths compare and found that I like the 50mm length best. I can't wait to get it!
