also - a decent flash helps if you don't have a tripod; if you can remote it somewhere, even better. but i'm still getting used to shooting in lowlight as well, so take my thoughts with grains of salt.
I have the 18-200 lens and I think it does a pretty good job in low light. A f1.4 lens is obviously going to be faster but I was pretty impressed with the 18-200mm. BUt then, it's the only one I have for now.

Oh I knew, that post had so much cunning you could chew it! I thought about using this pic though but couldn't find a hi-res one before I came across the T-Rex!

depends on what you shoot, i guess. it's hard for me to get clean shots with the 18-200 in low light unless i pump ISO up, since a lot of what i shoot is moving around.

my d5100 is doing pretty well again. just poneyed up some cash for an op/tech strap because the nikon one sucks and started hurting midway through anime expo.
I was wondering how the anime expo went. Post em up!

*warning! non DSLR content following*

Bought my mom a new camera for her birthday this year, a Canon PS 280SX. While we were over at my grandparents this weekend I tried shooting out in the backyard with it and snapped this one...

6spd, Titan1080 and onzedge like this.

Yeah, focus on the eyes and shoot at around 1.8-4 aperture to get a melted away background. The main focus of a portrait is the subject. The background is generally useless.
