A neat trick I use for the ground, is to buy a sheet of plexy glass from home depot and place it over a plain white or black surface. It creates a slight reflection & diffuses the shadows really well. I use some plain, non-glossy bond paper for the background or anything that's not "rough" looking. It messes with how people see scale. The exposure is spot on, but the scene looks like it's still a toy. Take a the AutoArt Models website and you'll see what I mean.

huh, thanks for the advise! actually, i have a sheet of plexiglass at home i can use. noted on the background as well. hope to smooth it out more. will checkout the autoart site as well. thanks!

i have a 1:18 black M3 i will practice next time around and should look perfect with a slight reflective ground for some sophistication.

Haha, I feel ya. I never have stuff lying around to take cool shots of at home. At least you have tons of models and stuff
