I took some long exposure shots this weekend and noticed a lot of dust. It looks like its on the sensor and not the lens. Anyone here ever clean the sensor themselves? Should I try doing it myself or just bring it in to a camera shop?

Get one of the sprayers to spray the dust off. No risk if youre not wiping the sensor with something..

I'm not overly thrilled with the quality of these shots (first time shooting anything of this sort. Learning on the fly), but I wanted to share because they crack me up every time I look at them.

This was at a mud run a couple of weeks ago. The station that the people were at had three hay rolls that they had to jump onto. They were a decent distance apart and the second photo shows the results for this poor (snicker) girl.

And just for the obvious reasons...

I've never cleaned a sensor myself. I'm skerred.
Camera shop? Do they still exist? They all seem to have gone online or killed by the big box stores.
Closest "physical" camera shop to me is B&H in NYC!

Cameta Camera in Amityville is near me, but I'm not sure if they clean sensors. Manhattan isn't that far either, but I'd rather not go there unless I have to. I'm wondering if I can drop it off at Nikon's Melville HQ.

I would take it to a Camera shop myself. I don't want to risk screwing anything up.

We used to have a lot of Penn Camera shops around here including one right by my house. They were always very helpful and the pricing was decent. Higher than online but you did get great service. Unfortunately they went bankrupt, were bought out by another store, and closed a lot of locations. Now the closest one to me is in Tysons Corner, so it's a little drive from Fairfax. :|

hey Onz... been so busy

Just had another kid. And just bought a new TSX too. So between all 4 forums, I haven't had as much time. lol...

I'm about to order one. Not spending a **** ton. Found that one made by Canon gets good reviews. Willing to try.

I was always disappointed in mono and tripods until I spent a decent amount on my Manfrotto/Bogen setup.

Let us know how the Canon mono works. What model is it?

I have a $100-150 range SLIK tripod that I am very happy with.
