Also, holy chit. This seems too good to be true, but the seller is well known. WTF?

Canon EOS 5D Mark II 21.1 MP Digital SLR Camera | eBay

That looks like a good deal on the 5D.

I feel like it has to be a scam or have a catch. That's a $2300 camera with a $750 L series lens.

Some of the big camera dealers get pretty good pricing and the seller has a very high number of sales. It could be totally legit. He is in UK though.

Random Star Trek shot from my den/office at home.

^^ cool! is that a model you built? :) one of the guys at work is a trekkie(?) trekky(?).

so during lunch i looked at my RC picts i took last night and noticed several areas i want to fix. first is lighting, im going to place one more incandesent light to the right of my camera to give tad more illumination around the front driver side tire, also will remove all items near the shooting area to rid reflection on the car's door and panel (like my synth-keyboard! :icon14:) and will try DOF that will give me closer to 30cm. :)

36mm f/7.1 from about 1m (iso100) - aim near headlamp/taillamp
42mm f/9 from about 1m (iso100) - aim near headlamp/taillamp

try this again. :D nono, im not mad. hahaha

I really need to start shooting in manual mode, and need to take the time to understand aperture/ISO/metering and how it effects my shots.. Auto can only take me so far.

Also what program are you using to add lights like that ken? Im just using a trial version of lightroom 3. Maybe i should download CS5 already, co-worker gave me a very nice book to read for CS5!

Nick911sc 08-04-2011 03:02 PM

I suggest using BOTH LR3 and CS5.

I use LR for color editing, lighting, white balance etc(not to mention going through large catalogs is much easier) and then I use CS5 for sharpening, major editing work etc.

That's just me though.

I have been using lightroom 3 for sharpening and noise filtering. Maybe i should be doing this in CS5 for better results?

kenchan 08-04-2011 04:22 PM

i use the barebone PS Element9. :D i only use it mainly for minor level adjustment and slight boost in saturation/slight sharpening if needed. most of my images are straight out of my camera.

oh, and re-size.

kenchan 08-05-2011 07:07 AM

Mr.onzedge- please let it rip. Evaluate my performance please, good and bad. :D no editing done other than resize.

Sharpening in LR kinda sucks. I use unsharpen mask in CS5 for way better results.

phelan 08-05-2011 08:27 AM

for some reason i can't get my CS5 to work with the NEF files my d5100 spits out.

Nick911sc 08-05-2011 08:29 AM

Can you choose to shoot raw on your camera?

Probably need to download the latest plug-in from Adobe. Nikon usually gives you the software with your camera if you just need to open an NEF file. I had the same problem opening with CS3. I should really switch to CS5, but the damn thing is so expensive (legally anyways).

Mr. Kenchan. I am not as articulate a critic as I can be in other areas. When it comes to judging photogrpaphs, I go with my initial gut feel which falls into one of four categories -- boring but OK, bad, well done but it doesn't speak to me or I really like it. This shot I really like.

It is nicely exposed, is interesting, has clear focus throughout and the lighting is good. You are getting better with each post. I am not just kissing your butt, either.

Thanks for sharing and for asking my opinion. Keep them coming.

My sons are going to the UTI car show Sunday -- it will probably be populated heavily with ricers, but I hear there will be some decent cars there too. Among the decent cars will be Taylor's scary-fast 280zx (one of my old ones) that he built and it is going for some dyno pulls. Although I have a rule (a guideline, actually) that my kids (men) don't get to schedule my time on the weekends, I am going to go and try to get some good shots.
