I wanted to try doing real infrared as oppose to faking the effect in photoshop. I'm gonna try it with an IR filter first. If I like it enough, there's this place that can convert cameras to only shoot in Infrared by removing the low pass filter and replacing it with an IF filter at the sensor itself. I may hold on to my D90 and have it done if I like it enough.

I don't mean faking it. I mean taking an infrared shot from the camera, either a converted camera or a filter, and then retouching with color (blue most often) in photoshop.

I rented a 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L last weekend to try and capture some photos at the Grand-Am races at Circuit of the Americas. This was my first time at the track and my first time shooting an actual motorsport race. I shot with a friend's t3i, enjoy!

Shutter priority. Try between 1/60 and 1/160. If your camera has an AI Servo focus mode (like the Canon 7D) use it. Then focus on the car, follow it and keep shooting. By following the car, you'll blur the background.

If you want stop motion, use aperture priority with a very fast exposure. 1/1000th or more.
