Whats the difference in lens? Isnt that pretty close to the 55mm 1.8 that comes as the kit lens

The kit lens is an 18-55, and its f/stop number only goes as low as 3.5-5.6. The 50mm f/1.4 is a prime lens (non-zoom) and it goes to f/1.4 for a very shallow depth of field and allows much more light into the camera than the kit lens. The sharpness is incredible. Its a $400 lens. Heres a link for more info: Canon U.S.A. : Consumer & Home Office : EF 50mm f/1.4 USM

Mine is only roughly 4-5 months old and has only been used for shoots 5-6 times. Almost new condition.

The kit lens has a variable max aperture (f-stop number). It has a maximum aperture of f/3.5@18mm & f/5.6@55mm. Smaller number means larger aperture...which means better in low light conditions. The Depth of field gets narrower, which can be a good thing. It creates bokeh...fancy word for "pleasing blurred background while the subject is in focus."

You should definitely pick up a 50mm f/1.8G as your next lens. It's relatively inexpensive (less than $200) and a very sharp lens. The 50mm f/1.8D is even cheaper, around $100, but it's only manual focus with your camera.

Why?

I'm going to use the sale to fund my upgrade.
Wish I would have thought of this when blackcherry20 was looking to buy.
Anyway, a friend of mine made very compelling arguments for full frame and that the 7D is holding me back a bit with beauty work because it isn't capturing all the texture that's there, making my post work that much more challenging.
So I'm looking at the 6D or a 5D MkII.

Oh, some NSFW there.

I love it. Don't forget videos might not be as good but since when can you mount your dslr on your car, head, put it underwater etc.

Ok guys, I need some advice/instruction/opinions/constructive criticism. This was shot with my D5100 and stock lens, then edited in CS6. I'm still learning everything (I just installed CS6 yesterday lol) so if you guys wanna tell me what I could do better or different on any point, please don't hesitate

My first thought is "polarizer". It will crank up the blues of the sky and kill reflections in the car.
I'm still learning a lot about post-processing, but these could be helped a lot. More saturation for one.

Looks great Huck
