nice and sharp, the white specs on the surround distract tho. might want to get rid of those in photoshop...

Alchemy 12-17-2011 03:23 PM

HKY, not too hip to all the photo lingo. By the surround you mean....? I just noticed those couple white specs under the shifter. Are you speaking of those?? Sorry for sounding like an idiot. Ive never had any formal training. Just bought a D90 one day about 3 yrs ago and have been self teaching since. Def jealous of the cars you get to shoot.

Hey guys, I'm looking to get my Fiancee a point and shoot for x-mas because she keeps complaining whenever she's forced to use my slr "it's too complicated" lol, I've narrowed it down according to my price range and preference but would love some of your advice on which one to go with, I've been out of the point and shoot news lately. I want the best picture quality and options for the best value...here are my choices, I'm also open to new suggestions.

I actually bought my girl a cam for xmas. I went with the Canon s95. After all the reviews I read its def the best. I wanted an s100 but couldnt find one I would be guaranteed to have by xmas. If you can find / want to spend $429 on a cam its the way to go. I played w her s95 when it came in this week and its a very nice cam.

dude, I'm reading reviews and scrolling through the pictures of the s95 and I'm pretty stunned at the quality...how's the size? can't really tell from the picture. Can she just throw it in her bag and carry around most of the time?

Alchemy 12-17-2011 06:40 PM

Without a doubt. Its about the size of my Droid but thicker. She will be able to take it ANYWHERE!

Ended up just going with a 10x30, when I split it apart in photoshop the spacings weren't in the best of places.

HKYStormFront 12-17-2011 10:25 PM

ah, gotcha! post up a pic once you get the print done!

yea that's what i was referring to. in the future, when you've got a good shot in your eye. stop to look around and make there isn't anything avoidable that's distracting in front of, around or behind your subject. then take the picture and double check it in your display. i often get an idea for a shot and take it from 10 slightly different perspectives. one might be better than the others once i get it on my big monitor at home, if not i just choose the one i like the most and delete the others. it's just electrons, why not make sure to get the absolute best shot possible right? sometimes there are just things that are unavoidable. often times the cars that i shoot at the airport have things in the background like runway markers and various signs you see at airports. i use the clone tool in photoshop to get rid of them, this makes the image a lot less cluttered (even if it's in the out of focus area behind the vehicle) and keeps the viewer's eye on the topic. this wasn't aimed specifically at you or your picture, just a general statement for this thread :tiphat:

Im open to any tips I can get. Editing those specs out should be easy enough, thanks for the advice. Its little stuff like that, that I dont pick up on all the time yet. I come from a drawing background, basically self taught as well. My mother was an amazing artist and my dad played with photography. Its all kinda in my blood I suppose. Ive strayed from drawing but still need to express myself artistically. Photography is the next step for me and Im loving it. I feel I can compose a shot very well and my camera skills are getting better. Its the finer details of photography that I need to polish now. Here is another I took today..

nice! more focused on the topic with less distracting going on around it. not a big deal as most people wouldn't even see it but at the top left corner i'm seeing your interior color (i'm guessing the door arm wrest) creeping in, wouldn't take a second to get rid of that using all that black area around it to clone off of :)
