Damn i love that car.. So was this was taken from another car moving along side with slow shutter speed? Also was it hand held or do you have some sort of setup to hold the cam steady in the other car.

It could be yours... it's going up for sale shortly

Correct, taken from another car with a slower shutter speed... I think this was in the 1/60-1/100 range, can't quite remember. Handheld. Canon 40d and Sigma 10-20 lens.

Thanks ken! Actually i returned my 70-300 VR and bought this 300mm F4.5 prime used for cheap!

It was an experiment to see if i preferred the old prime over the new zoom. And honestly i think im convinced. I will be getting the new 300mm F4 because it has much less color shift/aberration and will be sharper still. The rest of the range will be covered with a 70-200 F2.8 + 24-70 once i save up the cash

Oh and now i really want a celestron! Can hook up your DSLR to new telescopes and take some seriously deep space shots of nebula's, galaxies, planets etc. And you just tell it what you want to look at and it auto-finds your target. Take 1000 shots and overlay them in a stacking program.. fun! - Im never going to get FI for the Z at this rate...

Is VR an image stabilization or something? If so no, I do not. The Sigma 10-20 I was using does not have that feature.

1/40 according to EXIF. How fast were you going?

VR is the Nikon term, IS is the Canon term Personally, I hate VR/IS for panning or rolling shots. I've played with all the different modes/combos of settings and I still get better shots without VR. I can pan an 80mph car handheld at 1/60 (160mm++) and get better results with VR off than with it on.

I think we were moving around 30, MAYBE 35-40... i think the speed limit is 35 on that road.

I can pan fine with IS mode 2 on my 70-200 2.8 IS Canon lens. I found out that Mode 1 is for all shake, up down, sideways, ect so the IS tries to correct for it. Mode 2 is for up and down shake, not side to side, so it's much better for panning cause it's not trying to fight your side to side movement. BUT, that's just what I was told, never looked it up to verify anything lol.

that is correct^^ it does make a difference, i found myself fighting the IS system on my 100-400 when trying to do panning shots. ended up just turning the whole system off

i'm sure it works for taking sharp pictures when you need longer shutters of still scenes. just for panning shots i felt like i was fighting it. mostly because i never seem to be panning straight from left to right. there's always some vertical motion involved

^ With out a tripod, hand holding a long lens + small dslr body with out a grip and no VR/IS can make for a very shake picture unless you bump ISO and shutter speed.

In the end different lenses in the VR line or IS line will have varying degrees of performance. Its definitely a good thing to have for the most part when hand holding. If you have a tripod then it seems to be better off. Or in this case panning with slow shutter speeds to catch moving targets and blur background

My old prime has niether VR/IS or Auto focus. So my zoo trip was interesting. The tiger and bear shots were taken by hand. Eagle and most of the penguins were taken on my tripod. I think the first few penguin were by hand also.
