yeah, me too, ive gotta ditch this stock lens. i loved my 70-300 on my d40, gotta get something similar for this one now.

Get the 70-200f2.8 IS II. Much better lens than the old IS or the non IS. Better optics, mush better construction and IS. Far superior lens. You want to really have fun with your auto shots, get the 90TSE. Selective focus is the BOMB! I love shooting with the 200f2. Narrow dof (keep the background blurred) and sick sharp.

solutions:

The old 70-200f4L used. Very sharp and not too expensive
The old 200f1.8L Scary sharp but very heavy.

Sleepers: 135f2L, 200f2.8L and the 50f1.4 is also a great lens.

The 50f1.4 is a fantastic short portrait lens on a 1.6x sensor (equivalent to 80mm on a full frame camera)

Here is a great Canon resource place, can learn a lot of things, White it hard to shoot especially during gray skies, but at night it pops...

yea that's what i did, i bought my 70-200 f/4 L for $200. had someone offer me $450 for it recently but then had to back out cause their car broke and they had to put the money towards that instead. i've used the 50 f/1.4 and it's really good for not nearly the price of the 50 f/1.2 L. never heard of the 200 f/1.8 but i like the sounds of it

I'd like to get the 50 f/1.4 and the 70-200 f/4 L. This would suit my style I think, and not drain the bank too bad.

Be careful about a used 50f1.4. It is a fragile lens. If you look at a used one make sure e manual focus is very smooth, no binding. The 70-200f4 is a workhorse. Both excellent choices. I just shot some demo shots of my car with the 90 tse. Will post asap.

For up close shots of wheels, emblems, interior shots, what would the best choice of lens be, a zoom or full frame, macro lens? I definitely want a 70-200, but I also would like a dedicated lense for the shots I mentioned before. What would you recommend that won't break the bank?

Well for the price range (~$230) the 55-250mm got some good reviews (see NewEgg.com), and it's lightweight.

Not sure I can justify ~$600 on the 70-200mm yet LOL.

I'm just looking for a quality 2nd lens that I can zoom with. My Canon XSi came with a 18-55mm
