Well for the price range (~$230) the 55-250mm got some good reviews (see NewEgg.com), and it's lightweight.

Not sure I can justify ~$600 on the 70-200mm yet LOL.

I'm just looking for a quality 2nd lens that I can zoom with. My Canon XSi came with a 18-55mm

It is a fairly sharp lens, a bit of distortion (optical and chromatic) though. Build quality is ok. Price is pretty good.

Optical distortion (also called pin cushion or barrel distortion) will make straight lines at the edge of the frame appear curved.

Chromatic abberation will put a faint colored edge (usually purple, red or green) at edged where there is a lot of contrast. For instance, a dark car against the bright sky.

In general use this is a good lens but not for professional use.
