Default Attention all CSF Owners!!!

This is not to bash CSF in any way. I still love them and their customer support.

Hey guys,

I just recently got my new CSF radiator in stock and its waiting tomorrow's install.
As MANY of you know, that upper burp plug thing is prone to galling (destroys the threads) and either you have to retap it and PRAY there is enough material, or weld it up like Chuck did...

So before I install mine I'm going to have my machine shop make some brass/Teflon plugs (maybe some for the drain plug too)

So this is a public service announcement that I will be making a semi-limited run and I'll be selling them at "cost"
(I'm giving the money to the machine shop guys; expect $10 shipped)

If you'd like one, PM/text me

my threads were destroyed on the first screw in. the goddamn bolt head broke right off and i barely torqued it down. ended up welding the bolt in. otherwise i'd totally grab one!

Yeah, it's a shittily made bolt for a great product.

The issue is that when you weld up that hole you can never "burp" the radiator, so you'll always have an air pocket in the radiator (the CSF still cools remarkably well though, lol)
If you wanna retap it, I'll hook you up!

Holy crap I just got a BUNCH of PMs

I've confirmed it's 1 plug fits all. And I could only get my set made today because no one showed interest until 5 min ago, lol

It takes 10-15 min a piece. And rest assured I'm going to make it as cheap as possible for everyone. My dad manages the machine shop at work and my suggestion was... I'll sell them, take the guys out to lunch with the money, which I think is reasonable.

If I get a million more PMs... Maybe they'll have a few lunches, LOL

Oh.
And guys, if your local hardware store carries stainless steel bolts, do it. No reason not to.
Somehow no where near me besides Lowe's carries a bolt that fits, and NO ONE, not even McMaster carries a stainless one...

I chose brass because it's easier to machine and it has a bit of give and is very resistant to galling.

I might have them try SS on Monday.

And Teflon ones can be made too for weight saving, lol :-p

well, you can still burp it. i use this:

Amazon.com: Lisle 24610 Spill-Free Funnel: Automotive

take the radiator cap off, run the engine til coolant hits 180, run the heater on full blast for a bit, done.

BTW. please be careful. it is NOT one size fits all. i had a first gen CSF and the bolt was bigger then the replacement. make sure you check your bolt sizes. both CSF's were the original, single pass design, but had different sized bolts

Hey bro I have the new trip pass CSF already installed but had the local dealership do it for me which was a nightmare. I'm not sure what bolts they used and I don't know enough to even fully understand its purpose but it sounds like it wouldn't be a bad idea as a fail safe. I guess pm me and let me know how to proceed. If its only 10$ I'll bite

You are definitely correct, it helps to lift the front of the car as high as possible either way, but the burp vent helps

Hmmmmmm, I admit, I only tested it on my new one, but CSF told me that the drain was M10x1.25; the... extremely rude receptionist told me that she couldn't get specs for the top one.

My oil temp hasn't been over 190 since I installed this radiator. Even when I'm owning rednecks in their mustangs!

Guys, been over a year...

My machine shop has finally gotten around to it.

I'm going to have 33 bolts total. So you can either replace the top one or both.

Count me in for both. I had to replace my csf over the summer because of the upper drain plug again.
