Stolen from the Golden Glades Tri-Rail Station. I work in Boca Raton, so I parked the car at the train station, along with hundreds of other cars - benzses, Bimmers, Land Rovers, Jags, etc. The parking lot security guard speculates the bad guys come around "shopping". They grab VIN's, go home, prepare bogus paper work, come back with a towtruck, haul the cars away as if they were repossessing them, then drive them straight to the Miami Port where they get put on a boat and shipped out of the country. LoJack wont work, because by the time you notice the car is gone (usually after 6pm), the car is already in a container in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. And a GPS tracker will only work if you have an alert that communicates with you, for example, if the car is moved btwn 9am and 5pm (while you are at work). For those who are seriously techie: Mini 4 Camera Vehicle DVR The above is a super GPS tracker. You can set alerts based on time, based on movement, based on GPS positioning, it even has 4 cameras. It's the James Bond of car trackers. I my opinion, worth every penny. My Z is gone, I would have easily dropped $1K on the above unit in order to keep the car. After all, my insurance deductible was $500, plus the heartache... shoot, worth $1.5K just to keep my car... in a heart beat. |
Sorry for your loss. Wish our cars can self-destruct with a push of a button from our phone. Just to piss them off.

Just wondering how the insurance will handle this, are they going replace with a new Z? |

Insurance was an ok experience... not great... had StateFarm. In all honesty, I had to fight for some stuff. They said over the phone that they used a "special" system to value the car - resale value, not replacement value. So what ever the car is retailing for at the time of the loss is what they would cover, minus deductible, plus tax, title, registration, etc. Simple math, they said. "Special" turned out to be they sent me a list of 29 cars from Autotrader, cars.com, even CraigsList...:shakes head: NONE of the 29 cars were 40th anniversary, I checked the VIN on all of them. They averaged out the 29 cars, and said: That's what your car is worth. :gtfo2: So I had to do my own investigation. I sent them 50 pages worth of PDFs that had all (at the time) fourteen 40th's that were up for sale in the united states and listed in public web-based sales. The average of my 14 was almost 3k above the average of their 29. So they took my 14, added them to their list of 29, and average out the whole thing... They up-ticked me by a few bucks, but not nearly the 3k that my average was showing. In the end, I got fair value. It sucked, though, because I dropped a few thousand bucks into the car that I did not get back. And my car had 30K miles... it still smelled new. Oh well, some fker in Albaina is loving my his 40th now.... |
