WTF! I hope things will work out for you, buddy..... that really, really sucks..

SPOHN 04-10-2011 06:21 AM

Was your car damaged any?

'10Anamoly 04-10-2011 09:14 AM

Yeah, had damage to the side sills from the bricks under it, damage to rear right rotor metal shield and the front bumper. All getting replaced by insurance at Nissan.

I'm glad your insurance company is picking up the tab,if that happened to me and I found the guys there would be no need to call the police.

I wish life was handled this way. Then it would eventually eliminate all the bad doings

eastwest2300 04-10-2011 10:19 AM

Thats a good idea checking ebay and amazon as well.

Baer383 04-10-2011 10:32 AM

I agree SPOHN.

flashburn 04-10-2011 10:43 AM

Well, at least the good news is you should get something like $3500 for the wheels, so if you wanted, you could get some really nice aftermarket wheels.

Kastley85891 04-10-2011 10:47 AM

So, magically a set of used 370z rims showed up on Craiglist.org for sale for $2300 in Douglasville, GA for sale on April 11, 2011. 85% tread left, just about exactly where mine were. The color of the car in the pic isnt sold in the US, multiple spelling/grammar issues, etc, stay tuned.. Dekalb police (who rock, by the way!) and I are setting something up.

Good luck! Keep us updated.

EDIT: I tracked down the listing. It's beyond shady. Anyone who contacts this person wanting these wheels has to be foolish to not know they are stolen. I mean really, one single pic of one wheel. Mis-spelling Bridgestone. Most people who sell wheels/tires at the very least have pics of all four, usually lots of close-ups of the wheels and tire tread (or "thread" as they so eloquently put it).

I really hope you catch these guys

SPOHN 04-12-2011 03:26 PM

What ya yea gonna do when they come for you?

if I were you I would set it up to say you are buying them for something thats not a 370z so they don't get sketchy

oh boy... this is better than watching t.v. GIT EM'

Red__Zed 04-12-2011 10:03 PM

hmmmm

'10Anamoly 04-13-2011 08:01 AM

I told him I have a G35 and am willing to buy, but only if the treadwear is as good as is posted in the for sale. I used a dummy email address and the guy responded, gave me his real email, name, phone, etc and wants me to call him to set up the purchase.

Spelling/grammar are continually bad. More to come shortly, we have his home address now thanks to Dekalb County Police and will be setting up a meet (without me present obviously, just some of our boys in blue/plainclothes too).

docaam 04-13-2011 08:19 AM

good luck, but I would say you shouldn't have posted this

I've been in this situation before, very intense and gets the adrenaline pumping. It turns out well!

Good luck Anamoly

SPOHN 04-13-2011 08:44 AM

I just hope they get jail time if it turns out to be them. You never know with our system. Maybe they'll find some more items also.

I'd really delete this asap and just let us know the aftermath. If they or anyone they're involved with gets wind of this they may be able to get away. Although, if the cops already have their location, they're pretty much screwed

Thanks very much!

i live in the atlanta area, and just bought a new 370z, hope nothing like this happens to mine

SPOHN 04-13-2011 10:02 AM

Just get some good locking lugs.

BLM 04-13-2011 10:45 AM

Anomaly had wheel locks on his...

I've met (by happenstance in mixed company) people who had previously stolen cars, parts off of cars, etc. My old car was broken into a speed shop when it was being parted out and I had 6 defi gagues stolen. That was a smash and grab job. Stealing wheels off a new, flashy car from a parking garage is ballsy, and somewhat stupid, unless you know exactly what you're doing. Some cars have alarms so sensitive that just driving by them can set them off. These guys were able to bypass the wheel lock, grab the wheels without anyone noticing, and get away in i'm assuming some shady a$$ van. But people who are professional thieves can pull stuff off you wouldn't believe. But I must admit this is somewhat a "small time" gig because even though the wheels will net you a nice lump sum of cash when you sell them, you need to use a lot of traceable methods of communication to dump them. A lot of crime rings and well organized thieves have buyers already set up or avenues to move the products. These idiots put them up on Craigslist in a nearby geographic locale with a terribly shady add (one pic of one wheel, not even on the car). In Jersey, if your car is stolen, no matter from where, it's usually found in pieces in lovely Newark. A few years ago lots of cars were being stolen straight from huge shopping mall parking lots in the middle of the day. How you ask? The thieves just straight up towed them away.

I just hope they get what's coming to them and Anomaly gets his wheels back.

whoadeeson 04-13-2011 11:02 AM

Chris - I looked on Craigslist down here in Savannah and I'm not seeing anything. Keep us updated on the "Sting" operation ! Glad to hear the insurance is helping you out !

eastwest2300 04-13-2011 12:15 PM

Craigslist will "DO" you in, everytime...:ughdance: I cant wait to find out what happens.

rambunctious 04-13-2011 01:18 PM

hahaha they should make a tv show out of this kind of thing. LOL To catch a wheel thief...

'10Anamoly 04-13-2011 04:45 PM

The wheel locks were Nissan made, got em with the car. Waiting on time/date for the meet. Cops have his real name, age, phone number listings, criminal history and home address already, all from his phone number. He's screwed no matter what at this point, even if he doesn't meet. He is using an alias on Craigslist but they got his real name/etc from the phone company provider, lol. They dont think he is the one who nabbed the wheels, just someone peddling the stolen goods (from the thieves who took my rims) trying to make a profit. Either way, they figure that he has the thieves numbers.

Anyone know a 100% accurate way to verify if rims belong to a particular VIN or my car? I heard TPMS sensors had serial numbers but Nissan said they dont. I dont think the rims or tires do. Thoughts?

More to come shortly.

No, but they will most likely question him about where he got them and if they do their job, he will hopefully just fess up.

However, if the TPMS are married to your car, should there not be a way to verify they match your Z?

daisuke149 04-13-2011 04:50 PM

yup, if nissan hasnt already resset your cars TPMS, simply takes the wheels to your car
start car. No TPMS light.

Mike 04-13-2011 05:02 PM

what Dai said! but you might have to drive on them up to 19mph, I think before they awaken
