Persimmon/Orange Driver's Seat Bottom

I won't even bother explaining how I wound up tearing a hole in the bottom of driver's seat. Suffice it to say I am in need on one.

I know it's a long shot, but maybe someone has one laying about with a blown airbag or something. Really just looking for the seat bottom, but would entertain anything that would get me what I need.

Otherwise, I guess I will be going aftermarket and posting a passenger's seat and door inserts. Would be a shame though, love the color.

Please DO bother explaining how this happened, as any potential seller will NOT sell you the item you need if you don't come clean first :rofl2:

can you just purchase the bottom cover from the dealers?

Haha.

Alright, here goes. I will admit my shame.

So I took the car to a buddies shop to use his scales in an attempt to do a bit of corner balancing. I was working alone and was looking to add weight to the driver's seat. I got the bright idea of using an couple of old batteries to add to some weight i already had. I wrapped them in plastic, but one of them managed to leak out of the plastic. i almost immediately realized the problem, removed the battery, drowned the area in baking soda, pulled the seat out, removed the bottom portion, hosed it down. This was about 4-5 months ago. All seemed good and I thought I'd avoided disaster. Few days ago I get out of my car and there is a tear on the leather portion of the seat bottom. seems the acid had worked its way in to a small crack in the leather (the normal wear and tear type cracks, not anything you would consider messed up or broken. Anyway, it made the leather around that area super brittle.

So that's the story. I know it was a dumb move with the battery, and I know I deserve what I got. Now I just need to figure out how to get my baby back to good.

You can... they are insanely priced though. I am on the cusp of doing this, but thought I'd try my luck here first. I saw a passenger side seat bottom, brand new, going for $600 on ebay. just my damn luck it is a passenger side.

is it just the leather that is busted? If you are ready to bend over for the OEM part, you might be better off just getting a whole new set of leather from katzkin or leatherseats and reupholster both seats and door inserts for cheaper. They probably have a pretty close match for persimmon if you like that color.. or change it up to something custom. Maybe go two-tone =)

I guess I was hoping to salvage these seats. They only have about 25k on them. Definitely something I will look in to though.

Consider taking it to an upholstery shop? I had put a hole with a screwdriver through the seat of my g35. Removed the lower cushion from the seat and took it to a local shop and it was only $40 for them to replace that section with the hole in it. Match was pretty good. Couldn't tell.

I guess I was thinking that the persimmon would be hard to match, but damn sure doesn't hurt to ask. There is a trusted spot here locally, I will check it out.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
