Akenobo brakes
 

Hey folks.

I'm looking to upgrade my base brakes with the Akebono brake set for my 2016 touring Z.

I'm interested in buying a set or the calipers alone. Please let me know if you have a set in good condition.

My preference is to go for a used set. If anyone has advice about buying used I'd appreciate the tips.

I have a used full set of OEM Akebono rotors with about 15k miles on them that were removed to upgrade to my AP Radi-Cal setup. Calipers are already gone. They're pretty heavy to ship though but willing to part for a reasonable price

I just upgraded my base model brakes a couple of weeks ago. I bought calipers from a Q50 from LKQ off of eBay for $607 shipped. Mechanically they were perfect and cosmetically they only had a few small chips on them. I put PosiQuiet ceramic pads from Z1 in them and used rotors from Autozone. You'll also need to either get the shorter banjo bolts from Z1 or got to SS lines. I used the shorter banjo bolts just to save some money for now, $20 compared to $100.

When you put them on you'll need to either trim the dust shields or switch them for the proper shields. I trimmed them because the shields are a pain to get off.

I also spent some extra time before hand to paint the calipers.

Thanks for the tips. I assume there're no concerning long-term effects of going with trimmed dust shields?

The only thing I could think of is more dirt if you have pads that are dusty. I don't see any reason why it would cause an issue.

New Year's eve eve bump..

I just purchased a set of new Akebono calipers with pads and hardware kits.

I went cheap on rotors, though. I purchased them from AutoZone. I plan on spirited street driving only, no track. If anyone feels this is a mistake I'm all ears.

BREAKDOWN OF COST (inc. shipping):

New Nissan branded (grey front and rear) Akebono calipers with pads and hardware kits: $800
Rotors (Duralast from AutoZone): $140
Banjo bolts: $22
Total: $962
