Do you have any idea if the carbon backing would come off without too much effort (guess depends on how tough the glue is)? This would be good for me as I'm only looking for rear (shaving front) but I'd like without CF background.

Yes, it would come off easily. I removed mine as well.

If you look at the link at the bottom of the OP, you can see that the backing is held by strips of 3M tape. I just cut through the strips and it came out.
