I don't think it looks so good. But I can see it selling well if it's cheap. I could never imagine myself caring about it enough to take time to wash it more than twice a year. Only the z get's me excited enough to take time to wash it.

MC 10-06-2009 01:39 AM

hey for an estimatd 20K something and RWD... it aint bad considering its coming from toyota they have all but given up on this segment.. i give them and E for effort. this thing could be a great entry level sports car for someone. id rather see people riding around in these than eclipses and celicas

azn370z 10-06-2009 01:42 AM

Yeah I agree toyota's effort to bring a sporty car back into their lineup is a good thing. I wonder how the final car will look like.

Z'sZ 10-06-2009 01:43 AM

Seems interesting, odd for a small car they put two calipers for rear brakes maybe just a design thing since its a concept

MC 10-06-2009 01:59 AM

check out the display of Fuji Speedway in the gauges

Minicobra1 10-06-2009 02:04 AM

Not bad, but the Z looks better imo. Although if they changed the rims out, kept the weight around 2500lbs and put the 265hp boxer engine in it, this could be a great car.

That thing is SICK!!!! It's about time Toyota built some serious performance cars that are affordable. What's with the "zip up" interior?

Anyways, bye-bye Celica, hello RWD 21st century AE86!

The passion is back

theDreamer 10-06-2009 11:13 AM

Looks good, for a 20,000 price it will sell very well.
More power than an Si, RWD, 2+2, it could really take the market as a entry sporty vehicle if they can do all of these things and keep that price.

phelan 10-06-2009 11:18 AM

Agreed, that looks like a lot of car for around 20,000. it's a bit TOO futuristic in the interior; lot of form that kinda questions its own functionality. i mean, seriously, it looks like the dash just swallows DVDs for breakfast.

with that said, i'll be thrilled to see this go into production. subie's boxer engine in a lightweight FR chassis....and i'd throw the welcome back party for toyota.

now someone needs to mod the chassis to bring back trueno flip-up lights!

The Associated Press reports it will cost about 3 million yen ($33,700). That seams a bit high though, I think they got something wrong, unless that would be a top of the line model with the 305hp Turbo boxer engine.

Not sure how I missed this thread. The mythical FT-HS becomes a reality.

I think it is absolutely beautiful. I would totally drive one.

It looks like the GTR and the 370Z had a child and then sent it into the future with a very small piece of cheese.

Concept is cool... How will the actual production models look etc..? That's the big question imo..

Mr&Mrs 09-27-2011 12:12 PM

Bump from the deep!

Is anyone still following this? I am and come December if the production Model looks good, and the specs are up to par I hope to have this parked next to the Z.

theDreamer 09-27-2011 12:21 PM

Yes, I keep an eye on this car, though it is slowly turning into a lot of nothing really.

NEWS>> FT86 ENTRY PRICE RUMORED IN JAPAN - SUB ¥2 MILLION - Speedhunters

Quote:

With the Japanese version of the Toyota FT86 presentation scheduled for the Tokyo Motor Show later on in the year, Japanese magazines have been speculating on a lot of details about the car that could single-handedly save the entry-level sports car market in Japan. One rumor that most seem to be agreeing on is that the successor to the legendary hachiroku will be sold for ¥1.99-million. With the strength the Yen has been enjoying as of late the converted price of $26,000 might seem pricey buy we can expect the Scion version of the car to be much closer to the $20,000 mark. If this is so, that will make the FT86 more affordable than the entry level Mazda Roadster in Japan, which sells for a ¥2.33-million ($30,500). This is one car everyone is waiting for!

That is what im afraid of but im keeping my hopes up for now. This car has the potential to be huge. I still think I might get the Suby version though I just cant see myself in a Scion not downing them at all they just seem teeny bopper to me.

I wish they would reconsider putting it under the Toyota badge, but Scion is the new 'hip' brand so it will go that way.
For 20k it seems like a decent deal, compared to other companies offering FWD 4 bangers at that price, but throw in a turbo and add 2-3k and it will be a huge hit.

Mr&Mrs 09-27-2011 12:35 PM

I know it is rumors....but I hear the following model year may have a turbo option. I do not want to wait though and will just add it to the car later. The Global market will be badged a Toyota, just not in the U.S.

True, and I assume a lot of people will rip off the Scion logo and put a big T.
I heard a rumor that there might also be a STi version made but no official word yet on what that would have under the hood or other options. Only thing they did say was it will stay RWD even if a STi version is made.

Jamaica 09-27-2011 12:42 PM

for around 20k it should be a fun car to drive. I hope its RWD.

k20z3 09-27-2011 12:55 PM

Scion FR-S / Toyota FT-86 Leaked in Modellista Catalogue

Looks like the production version stayed pretty close to the last concept version. I hope the specs turn out well.

DJ-of-E 10-27-2011 02:23 PM

Should I trade in my 370z for this car? haha j/k

kenchan 10-27-2011 03:28 PM

Yeah. I hope they stayed true to the original vision of a light modestly powered RWD sport coupe. The pictures look good. If it ever actually gets into production and the specs check out, then I'll likely get one for a DD.

Rui Z 10-27-2011 03:46 PM

I want that mouth on my Z. I wonder if UAM can make it?

A few updates:
First Drive Review of Toyota FT-86 / Scion FR-S Mule! [Car magazine] - Scion FR-S Forum | Subaru BRZ Forum | Toyota FT-86 Forum | ft86club

Key points
-200HP/170TQ
-About 2700lbs
-7 sec 0-60mph
-No turbo

Quote:

Turbocharging the flat-four would be straightforward (after all, that’s what Subaru does with the Impreza), but chief engineer Tetsuya Tada told us that he ‘doesn’t like turbos’ and has ‘decided to reject the numeric power war’. He also said that an R version of the FT-86 was coming with less weight, Brembo brakes (our test car’s stoppers were from Hitachi), a rollcage, a larger rear wing, no rear seats and, yes, a mechanical LSD but no more power.
Pricing seems to be unknown still some are saying 20k and others are saying 25k starting price.

Get a Miata and call it a day

Skeeterbop 10-29-2011 11:18 PM

If the interior ends up looking even close to that, I would have to pass.

MC 10-29-2011 11:20 PM

the red one in the brochure needs a lip spoiler or a wing badly... it looks way too flat from the roofline back and the rear stops to abruptly compared to the pointed angular front
