Granted, these are FI engines and the FT engine is NA so not entirely apples to applese, but I expected better numbers.
Well, the original SR20DE engines are barely 165HP w/ 120lbs of torque.

Still..you think after 20 years later, you would think these newer engines are supposed to be more power efficient, especially when the SR20DE engine had like 30MPG on the freaken god dang Sentra!

53:47 strikes again!

I really appreciate the emphasis with "Tire transport for track days."

I kina dig this car, but I don't get the "I'll get one as a DD and keep my Z" thing. They are similar enough that if you need a DD as well as a Z, just get a STi, suv, comfy sedan etc vs. some small, impractica for hauling anything, second car, it's almost like saying I have Z, so I'll get another Z as my DD to save my original Z from wear and tear.

Still would love to see and STi'd version of this from Subaru, I'l be really tempted were that to happen...

Actually, that's a great idea! 1 Z for the track, 1 for DD. BRILLIANT!

The only reason I said I would use it for a dd and keep the Z is because I honestly have no need for the rear seats. I would just fold them over and use it as a 2 seater with extra storage space and make the Z my weekend fun car.

I'm one of those thinking about this as a DD. The thing is it is quite different from my Z so I don't see the argument for just getting another Z -- though I have thought about getting the coupe for DD and leaving the 'vert for those perfect 'vert days . But sometimes tossing around a light, moderately powered, car is a blast.

I need a new DD, but I don't like comfy sedans, STis, etc. I've got no need to haul anything around so this sounds like a good deal all around.

That's honestly one of the coolest features I've seen in a car.

Even if they don't bring a big power version, that motor is supposed to be bulletproof. I bet we see some big numbers out of it when guys slap on FI.

I REALLY wanted this car (and maybe still do...), but for me the quandry is the substantial difference in power.

Now, if TRD offers some sort of blower for the car then I'd be interested again. Otherwise, I'd get this as a second car if in the budget, but not a replacement.

I deeply miss having a lightweight, tossable car, but to go back to a vehicle that needs A LOT of aftermarket support to get out of it's own way... ugh... just can't go through that again.

The two big X factors are:

1. No one in the aftermarket seems to have a very good grasp on tuning a DI motor (yes, it will also have port injection, but not clear whether or not it will be easy to just modify that as a work around).

and

2. newer Toyota ECU's are notoriously tuner unfriendly... that might not matter if it's a Subie ECU (Cobb?), but all unknown at this point.

And of course, not sure I want to light my warranty on fire (and possibly blow the motor) in the struggle to make the car fast in the straights as well as the corners...

A 0 - 60 time of 6 seconds isn't exactly slow. I mean, it isn't fast, but it's entertaining.
