good thread..
BTW, if I'm driving around and I see this cop car in my rear view mirror, I'd probably laugh my a$$ off :rofl2: http://www.uphaa.com/uploads/425/car-po20.jpg Now, this one the other hand is awesome http://www.uphaa.com/uploads/425/car-po28.jpg |

Texas has some good cop cars, though Houston has moved onto the stealth dodge cars now with all internal lights, etc. Luckily there are not many, but damn you never see them coming.

We have some undercover 80s bronco here that I've seen with someone pulled over twice. Talk about not seeing that one coming. |
we have these charger cop cars all over the city. Pretty bada$$

I wish Houston went with those, I can spot that half a mile away.
Another thing many counties are doing in Texas is not the dodge charger, but F-150 with internal lights, most people never see the truck as a threat. |
Off topic a little,
My wife said Ford is canceling production of the Crown Victoria. I believe that's the number one choice when it comes to patrol cars. |

Not that all the other cars weren't great but you are getting +rep for this one in particular Frost.

In Houston we have the crown vic (slowly going away), impala, dodge charger, some pick-up trucks, and motorcycles. It is getting harder to pick them out from a distant, especially with them all going with built interior lights now. |

I respect our local and national forces. these people keep us alive. There will always be bad apples that can ruin the bunch.
Police are our friends. They have a shitty job, and the harder the time the public gives them, the pissier they will get. Respect for officers, Armed forces and local. |
Man, the D.A.R.E brings back memory's when I was in elementary and middle school. Always did have fun when they came around.

I think this time next year we'll be seeing MANY of these Caprices all over....6.0L RWD!!!
|
They impounded this from a guy doing 130 in a 30 zone and trying to run. Turned it into our D.A.R.E new car.

Ouch. I guess you play, you pay.
I pretty sure anything over 100mph here is a solid impound. We sure get some weird D.A.R.E. cars here. |

http://www.holden.com.au/vehicles/Statesman The base model of the car is the Holden Commodore. Commodore SS - Commodore Range - Vehicles - Holden. Go better. Holden is a wholly owned subsdiary of GM. There has been a lot of media in Australia about this car. |
the problem with the Holden, is its over 100k for the car pre-built.
We chose not to use that for LVMPD because of the cost. And when there is a repair, we cant afford to have the downtime on the car while its being repaired - as opposed to me being able to go to the car, fix a light and send it out again. and of course, i'd have no job, hehe. The shifter is in the middle, thats a HUGE NO NO for a police car. HUGE! -edit- refering to the pre-built holdens (lights, siren, strobes, console, all come with the car). we are currently waiting for ford to send us their new RWD Taurus. set-up as a police package (similar to police interceptor). if all goes well, thats our new car, as the crown vic line is coming to an end soon. |

the biggest thing is room. Where are we going to put our consoles? I have an ongoing order with D&R to build 1,000 consoles for our cars. the feet brackets can be changed from car to car, but the console must sit between the seats (where the shifter is).
When you have the shifter where its at in the holden, the officer must look down to the right to look at the radio. The officers eyes are no longer able to see if a car brakes. When the officer wants to press the buttons on the radio, how are they going to do it? the right arm can not bend correctly to easily press buttons. try it right now - try to touch right past your armrest on your chair with your right hand, notice how awkward and hard it is. (remember there's a shotgun rack right between the seats, behind the driver, so your elbow cant lay straight) Yes its easier with the left hand - but then your moving your whole body sideways. thats a no-no while driving. third, our consoles are in front of the cop to the right. the cop can slightly look down and still use the peripheral vision to notice if a car brakes in front of them. Putting the computer on the dash is a nice idea, but its too far from reality because of contracts with companies. We have a laptop system that we use (tough books). Where are the cops gonna mount the laptop if the shifter is right there? and yes it must be mounted, not laying free. theres a couple more but that should give an idea. |
