Now who really cares if your car is faster than someone else's? This I where I would bring up other cars who are notorious for heavy engine mods and cheap at the price of the actual car. This is a 370z forum but I have to bring up the Toyota supra, just because it can beat almost any other car if modded to 1000hp. When you reach that hp amount, go up to others and tell them " I beat Ferraris and Lamborghini's". I don't think they would care, and I don't think the guy in the 6 figure car would care either. Even if you have a faster car than somone in a Ferarri or Lamborghini, I would still choose the Lamborghini.

To me it all really matters on balance of quality and performance, you can't really buy a mustang just because it goes fast in a straight line, that would get boring really fast. I want to enjoy the interior of the car because that's were I will be spending most of the time driving in while seated on a hopfully comfortable chair. I don't care about speed unless I'm being paid over a million a year and doing GT races on the track. In my opinion the 370z is more classy than a raw mustang which is a headache to drive daily. That's why I drive a 370z nismo, and hope to go to a GTR nismo or not in the future.

You’ve obviously never driven a 2011-present mustang. it drives nice and handles great. that is why it beat the nismo around the track at vir (car and driver test). as for the interior i kinda agree. but the mustangs tech package with leather seats is a much more comfortable drive than the 370z. Ive owned both and the mustang is a better car overall. the 370z just looks better and feels a little bit tighter in the steering wheel. its said to say but the mustang beat the Z.

What you are saying is more than likely true but what you are not taking in to consideration that the 370 came out in 09 and it took Ford over two years to catch up and surpass the Z. After six years the current Z's platform is still very competitive to most all current pony Cars.
We shall see if the next gen z will set the bar again.

The s197 chasis has been out since 05... And even with the 4.6 it was still competitive with the 370Z lol

Bottom line is that he said its a balance between quality and performance. I'd say they're equal in quality but the mustang beats the 370z in performance. Which one would I pick? The 370. But that doesn't mean it's a better car. Performance is defined by how well the car does when it's pushed to its limits and how well it takes the abuse in my opinion. The Z should've came with a factory oil cooler for sure. iys all personal preference. But the mustang out performs the Z. Turns and straight away. Still love the Z don't get me wrong. Waiting to see the next model.

With the 4.6 the Z owned mustang. Sorry chief, I disagree.

The Z has had an oil cooler since 2012 and yes it should have had one from the beginning, but I had one with and without and without, and the car was more than capable of getting you arrested on the street in 100 degree weather without the oil cooler.

The Mustang had its shortcomings when pushed to the limit as well. There are companies whose sole purpose for existing is to correct them. In my opinion, the Mustang's shortcomings (stock) are far worse than the Z's. But that's just my opinion.

the 4.6 was absolute trash.
370 would take it everytime.
The mustang became a car to consider only after 2010. Ever since thn they been trying harder and harder and pissing off their year old customers every year since thn.

Most of us here know that the 370z is slower thn the v8 mustang, We still went ahead and bought the Z. IDK about america but here they are pretty much the same cost and gas is negligible so i had no reason not to buy the mustang. Infact, I had better options thn these.

This is false. In 2010 they released what everyone thought would be the new thing. After finishing the 5.0 coyote, they dropped the bomb in 2011. Yes the 2010 customers got shafted. Just like when Nissan went from DE to HR in one year. That's part of buying a car. You always take that risk. The mustang didn't change at all from 2011 to 2014. The new 5.0 isn't that much better performance wise either. They just introduced the IRS along with a Ecoboost edition, and new interior. Yes I know it's still a jump in upgrades

Remember the 2008 Wrx that made 225hp and then the 2009 came with the vf52 turbo and made 265. All car companies do this. It's how they make money haha. Nissan did a good job with the 370. It was fast enough in a straight line. It handles amazing. And came pretty track ready with the exception of an oil cooler. So they held their ground and didn't need to change anything. Few bugs here and there but that's about it. But now the 2015 Z owners are going to be upset when the 2016 releases if they do what they said they would.

That 4.6 was more competitive to a 350 DE, later on the HR. Not a chance against a 370 though.

Lol yes I know I was just busting balls. That's why I put LOL. we can sit and go back and forth all day about it. My opinion is that if you just want a fast car. Buy te mustang. If you want something for a good drive and looks sexy the Z. That's just my opinion.

Well, that may be your opinion but I disagree. I have driven the S197 pretty extensively and I find the Mustang to be big and heavy and not fun to drive at all once you get past the fun of mashing the throttle 2 or 3 times in the honeymoon period. It doesn't feel sporty in the slightest. Oh, except the shifter. It's nice and crisp with short throws, that was definitely pretty enjoyable.

I didn't like the retro-inspired interior and didn't find the interior it to be of very good quality. One car was a base GT and the other was the top-tier car with leather Recaros and the upgraded stereo, etc. The higher-end model was passable but not really impressive. It more gave me an impression of half-assed nostalgia that interfered with functionality rather than a good design, or a nice place to spend a lot of time driving. Apparently the S550 is a step in the right direction in that sense.

Anyway, point being, I really could not care less if the Mustang is faster around a track. It didn't strike me as a very well-put-together car although I certainly can't argue with the results, but I am not very interested in owning one.

Oh very well said. I agree 100%. Despite sounding like the '86 crowd, etc. however, you did state, and IMO, the best response about sounding like the Twins crowd, "the Z isn't DEALBREAKER slow." Perfection.
