370Z or EVO X
Can't choose between the two:
370Z: 2 door coupe 2 seater V6 NA engine RWD Nice powerful engine, but bad in snow and no back seats. Evo X: 4 door sedan 4 seater 4 cylinder turbo AWD Powerful engine but bad highway cruiser revs at 3800 rpms at 80 mph... Okay in snow and has a back seat I commute from home to school and the car I will get will be my DD What do u guys think? |
You need to ask yourself a few questions.
1. Are you going to mod it? 2. Do you prefer Turbo or N/A? 3. Do you need back seats? 4. Do you want to struggle in the snow with RWD? 5.Will you have a winter beater if you get the Z? etc. |
1. yes a little bit.
2. never driven a turbo. 3. yes i need a back seat 4. not really. 5. i have an 06 ml350. which one is more fun to drive? |
LOL! Call me a fanboi, but Z!!! I'm not a fan of 4 doors, but if I needed a car with 4 doors, the Evo would really be a top candidate.
|
I buy my cars based on 3 things:
1: Performance/Fun to Drive (BOTH Z and Evo) 2: Looks (Z) 3: Reliability (Nissan over Mitsubishi) That's just my opinion. But if you definitely need the all wheel drive and 4 seater than the Evo would be a good car. |

Get some Blizzak tires for winter driving on the Z and it will be alot better in the snow than before but not as good as the EVO. I love em both but if inclement weather scares you go with the EVO. I daily drive my Z all year round here in NYC. Only the really bad snow/ice days I dont drive it.

I would say in your situation, get the evo...I considered the evo as well, but when I found out that that nissan had a 380rs and were going through with the G37, I knew it would only be a matter of time before they released the 370. I live in the south (hate it) and it only snows MAYBE once a year so =/ but it sounds like the evo would be a little easier for you. Unless you get a boner every time you look at the 370 like me :icon17: you cant stop love.

If you need a back seat then the Evo obviously makes more sense. It snows in cincy, and you will most likely have to park it and drive your ML. I would tell you to get a Z since you are on a Z forum but it looks like the EVO would be a better fit for what you need. Btw, where in cincy are you? |

In any case, definitely G37xS. AWD, sporty, and all that jazz. Only downside for some, however, is that there's not stick on the xS. |
You're comparing an AWD four cylinder turbo car to a RWD NA V6. I'm sure the cars drive very differently and the best thing you can do would be to drive both and then make your decision.
Don't listen to what random people on a message board have to say, make the decision for yourself. |

Also, if the "car is in the shop all the time" than how can "their warranty be useless"? If it's in the shop, wouldn't you be using the warranty? For me the warranty was irrelevant because I knew I'd be modding the car beyond simple bolt ons. The free service was nice though. |

That's why I bought my Z. |

I've been lurking both this site and evolutionm.net because I like both cars so much. They really are different beasts, I would say drive both and go with your gut.
You can't beat the handling and upgrade ease of the new Evo, but I still find myself coming back to the 370z especially after seeing some of the new TT kits and body kits coming out. |
damn i'm in the same position 370z or evo X ugh
coming from a turbo car i dont want to go back to n/a rofl |

First off, Evos are NOT DSMs. Second, the Evo X doesn't even have a 4G63. Tres, that's three in spanish. Fourth, crank walk is NOT as wide spread as people think. Ugh... so many non-informed people I've run into today... :ughdance: |
Most people don't even know what the hell DSM even means, or what it applies to. So they just call anything from Mitsu, a DSM.
|
EVO X for you........
|
I could not get myself to get the Evo X because it looks so much like a regular lancer...
|
The Evo looks so huge compared to the IX, like almost like the tires are too small for the size of the body

I have had two Evo's. A 600awhp 8, and a bone stock X. Loved the 8. Hated the X after a couple of days. They tried to refine the X, and just missed the mark in my opinion. They should have just left well enough alone. I never thought it was as fun to drive as the 8, even when the 8 was stock.
As far as reliability is concerned, you cannot go wrong with an Evo 8 or 9. Change the clutch, and just proceed to beating the crap out of it. I had over 300 1/4 mile passes, tons of pulls on the dyno, and several track days on mine, with zero issues after replacing the craptastic stock clutch. IMO the 4g63 is one of the most reliable motors on the planet. With all of that said, I think once I am putting down 350-400 to the wheels in my 370, it will be my favorite ride ever! (including 2 evo's, 2 supra's, GTO, 350z, 300ztt, and about 15 more over the last 20 years...geez I'm getting old) |
If you mod the Evo at all... you will kiss your warranty goodbye. I am not joking you - people would go to SCAA events locally and scout out what evos where there and some people over at the evo forums got their warranty red flagged just cus they autoXd... with that said... if you think nissan warranty is bad... you will be in for a world of hurt w the evo. I used to have one... if you have never driven a boosted car - you will love the evo... it took me about 2 weeks of driving to realize that boost wasnt all that... its fast / it can be fast.. but you do not get the feedback the Z gives you. There is a certain kick I get from knowing its just me and the car - not some crazy computer deciding how to modulate my wheels.... thats my 2c... i can give you more info if you wanna pm me on what i think of the evo awd...
If you are gonna drive the car at the limit - dont get the evo.. it will make you a bad driver w/ any other car... that i promise you.... |
I still have my warranty... but I do agree, some dealerships are psycho. Hell, even worse is Subaru. I remember back when I bought my Evo that Subaru was handing out free one-year SCCA memberships... but if you actually used the membership, your warranty was gone.
The two warranty issues I had with my Evo were both covered (but weren't major at all... shift knob and lights). |
You know it's funny because I spend some time over at evolutionm.net because a buddy of mine owns an Evo 8 and everyone on there hates the highway on the damn evo. There was talk about Mitsubishi going bankrupt too(dunno how true that is) and having to pull out of America a bit(as far as dealerships and such). My buddy LOVES his 8 and like the other guy said all he did was replace the clutch cause it sucks. I am curious why you don't choose between the STi and the 370z. STi to me just seems like a better vehicle right now compared to the flappy paddle evo or the shitty manual they offer. I chose because I was looking for excellence, that's why I got the 370Z !:driving::happydance:
|
^ not to go back there but the X > IX and co all day long
|
^ i was just joking lol... mod for mod all evos are amazing cars... as is any stock turbo... but... the X has been doing well for how much was expected from it. Once you mod - who cares its not apples to apples... so lets not even go there. Honestly - If you are going to mod the crap out the car - get an evo and pick whatever one you think looks better... regardless of VIII -> X it wont really matter... they all can be reaaalllyyy fast
