I've been lurking both this site and evolutionm.net because I like both cars so much. They really are different beasts, I would say drive both and go with your gut.
You can't beat the handling and upgrade ease of the new Evo, but I still find myself coming back to the 370z especially after seeing some of the new TT kits and body kits coming out. |

First off, Evos are NOT DSMs. Second, the Evo X doesn't even have a 4G63. Tres, that's three in spanish. Fourth, crank walk is NOT as wide spread as people think. Ugh... so many non-informed people I've run into today...

I agree 100% I was behind one today and they just don't have the draw for me personally as a 9(too drunk to do roman numerals sorry lol). But you said you needed a back seat, so it seems like you have your mind set. Although remember as someone said if the 370 is truly what you want then get it. Guaranteed overall in the long you will be disappointed if that is what you want. That's why they made beaters lol

I have had two Evo's. A 600awhp 8, and a bone stock X. Loved the 8. Hated the X after a couple of days. They tried to refine the X, and just missed the mark in my opinion. They should have just left well enough alone. I never thought it was as fun to drive as the 8, even when the 8 was stock.
As far as reliability is concerned, you cannot go wrong with an Evo 8 or 9. Change the clutch, and just proceed to beating the crap out of it. I had over 300 1/4 mile passes, tons of pulls on the dyno, and several track days on mine, with zero issues after replacing the craptastic stock clutch. IMO the 4g63 is one of the most reliable motors on the planet. With all of that said, I think once I am putting down 350-400 to the wheels in my 370, it will be my favorite ride ever! (including 2 evo's, 2 supra's, GTO, 350z, 300ztt, and about 15 more over the last 20 years...geez I'm getting old) |

If you mod the Evo at all... you will kiss your warranty goodbye. I am not joking you - people would go to SCAA events locally and scout out what evos where there and some people over at the evo forums got their warranty red flagged just cus they autoXd... with that said... if you think nissan warranty is bad... you will be in for a world of hurt w the evo. I used to have one... if you have never driven a boosted car - you will love the evo... it took me about 2 weeks of driving to realize that boost wasnt all that... its fast / it can be fast.. but you do not get the feedback the Z gives you. There is a certain kick I get from knowing its just me and the car - not some crazy computer deciding how to modulate my wheels.... thats my 2c... i can give you more info if you wanna pm me on what i think of the evo awd...
If you are gonna drive the car at the limit - dont get the evo.. it will make you a bad driver w/ any other car... that i promise you.... |

I still have my warranty... but I do agree, some dealerships are psycho. Hell, even worse is Subaru. I remember back when I bought my Evo that Subaru was handing out free one-year SCCA memberships... but if you actually used the membership, your warranty was gone.
The two warranty issues I had with my Evo were both covered (but weren't major at all... shift knob and lights).

You know it's funny because I spend some time over at evolutionm.net because a buddy of mine owns an Evo 8 and everyone on there hates the highway on the damn evo. There was talk about Mitsubishi going bankrupt too(dunno how true that is) and having to pull out of America a bit(as far as dealerships and such). My buddy LOVES his 8 and like the other guy said all he did was replace the clutch cause it sucks. I am curious why you don't choose between the STi and the 370z. STi to me just seems like a better vehicle right now compared to the flappy paddle evo or the shitty manual they offer. I chose because I was looking for excellence, that's why I got the 370Z !
