Docaam Project Hakosuka
Hey guys wanted to share my current ongoing project/ride. First few posts are old ones with all all updates happening for last year.
Being a hardcore Nissan fan was in search for a skyline for a while Hakosuka to be specific, fell in love with this car since started working on S30, been looking for last 10-11 months or more but finally managed to get hold of a 1972 Skyline 2000GT sedan back in june last year. Saw it on yahoo auctions in fact was there for past few months, asked a friend there to contact the dealership and check the car. He went down in Kawasaki area and saw/drove the car, it has some bist of visible rust on drivers side doors nothing which cant be taken care of easily. Apart from that it drove fine and body looks good as well. The details what I saw and heard that time were: 1972 2000GT Sedan Kouki Model Engine seems to be modified L20 with triple carbs, headers not sure what else is there but sounds and drives fine AC is there seems to be stock offered by factory Power steering & Hayashi wheels Below copying from local forum to update the thread End of October 2013 skyline reached here got it cleared and straight to the workshop, thought would be able to register it but i guess need some bodywork as some panels have rust spots Some positive points car body is straight and seems like been modified in the past, painted black from outside inside is original Gun Metal colour, floors, engine bay and trunk area is in good condition, most of the exterior parts are intact and good to reuse, aftermarket fender mirrors, Interior is pretty decent with moonface mats , GTR speedometer, all switches and panels in good condition, 5speed upgraded transmission, engine is the best thing so far havent started as needs new battery, but its upgraded with headers and exhaust along with triple carbs, power steering and AC. Not sure if its stock L20 or been replaced to L24/28/30 need to check that so far so good Took some mobile cam pics, of the body Sometime in November Started the body work opening up panels and counting rust panels, rust was there but then I guess not that bad happy with overall condition of the car. Plan is to fix the rust panels then strip the whole car and spray it, while arranging some usual parts from Japan. Some proper pics taken for the first time |

While the bodywork is in progress so far all four doors are done and hood in working, I got removed the engine and suspension parts for cleaning and polish/paint and see whats needed to be replaced. Its coming along nicely pictures below are from whole December didn't get time to update the thread. Engine removed and engine bay cleaned up Major rust spot in the bay After lots of scrubbing and cleaning came out better in original colour Removed the parts for paint/polish Paint we were using, all paints were specially for engine and heat resistant. Painted all the moutings, cross member, engine parts keeping it close to the stock look Painted the gearbox as well, it was all cleaned and repaired before painting. Special wrinkle paint on crank case Polished and chromed Nice outcome still not final Got some new parts as well, pressure plate, small engine parts, brake and clutch cylinder, tire rod ends and sway bar linkages etc, as all needed to be replaced, someone managed to get all these here Got a radiator as well, there are two one for a friend Left is polished one middle painted and on right is stock. Along with the slim line flex-a-lite fan as removing the stock clutch fan. Removed door hinges, hood and trunk locks, hood hinges, headlight support plates and loads of misc bolts and nuts sent for Galvanizing |

Thanks for sharing.
Great progress can't wait to see it all done. I know this is going to rub some purists the wrong way, But had you considered about replacing the motor with an L28? Seems that would give it a good punch while keeping it looking stock. |

L20 is very close to L28 its not the L20 4 cyl but 6 inline. Power is slightly less then L28 30hp less but it revs better. Have plans to change to RB25DE running on RB26 head with ITBs Coming back to updates Stock springs were cut usual thing in cars from Japan and shock inserts were weak so for a temp solution just to get the car running now, trying some coilover conversion. Got Mazda6 front and Suby rear coilovers from junkyard, this is what the guy said, will do some cut and sleeve thing will update later how it goes. The struts were cut and piece with billet steel made to be welded and have a thread on top, then a sleeve to go on the billet part from lower end and will take the coilover from top, gives height adjustment as well. Cutting the struts Welding it (what safety lol) For top custom plate with same holes as stock upper mount from outside but inside same as stock coils so was replaced. So final outcome from this before to THIS Last edited by docaam; 08-31-2014 at 02:37 AM. |

Update from March
Carbs needed refinishing, so got those done Got the basic kits from Weber UK with 175 needle Cleaning up rest of the parts Painting the covers just to show difference Refinished ones, looks way better in person Two of the headlights were a bit damaged as well so tried to find some original alternatives locally, found 1994 Toyota Coaster (small bus) headlights matching the originals 100% only difference was 12v vs 24v, was easy fix with some 12v bulbs Tie rod ends are fixed as well came out similar size to hako, as didnt want to source from Japan so got something locally The end bushes were replaced filled with grease as well Before Now As finishing the front suspension so got some brake pads which will fit Hako as well As said earlier sent all bolts, locks of hood, trunk, hood hinges, headlight rear trims, fuel line and some other misc for galvanizing to get it cleaned up and rust free came out good not great but will serve the purpose. |

Moving along assembly which is done fine some parts came in, as because of painting all factory stickers (AC/Radiator/tire pressure/Ok seal/oil cap/hood lever/high ocatane indicator etc)were gone got some new and some accessory ones PMCS, Sport corner, commonly used on skylines. Some bigger ones will go inside hood and some on car. Still need to find the right place for some of these stickers.
New OEM wiper arms and blades Using current fog lamps on hakotora (WIP) so new of hakosuka For rear got 14k springs with adjustrer And got custom Gaz shocks thanks to friend in UK, these are with 20 damper setting and short stroke so wont bottom out when lowered Send the headlamp frame and front grill for polish then paint Now final status of hako Another electric pusher along with stock clutch fan, very high power pusher All moldings and rubbers installed except inner door wetting New redline fuel pump and regulator, trunk was painted and gas tank was sprayed flatblack came out very nice Rear and front bumper refinished, taillight panel needs rechrome but cant find anyone locally to chrome this material Last edited by docaam; 11-02-2014 at 11:26 PM. |
