BMW M4 or Lexus RCF?

Which one would you buy and why?

DEpointfive0 06-01-2014 03:41 AM

Lexus. Because it's a Lexus and won't break

RonRizz 06-01-2014 04:37 AM

Both. and a GTR. same reason posted above.

Zoren 370 06-01-2014 08:07 AM

Il go for the M4 because its easier to spell!:o

Solomatrix 06-01-2014 08:26 AM

Rcf > m4

UNKNOWN_370 06-01-2014 09:28 AM

I don't like neither one but I guess RCF if you twisted my arm.

ZKraken22 06-01-2014 09:55 AM

Lexus but at that price point I'd get a used GT-R

DLSTR 06-01-2014 10:21 AM

M4 - Will be less of them on the road! Beauty car! Drive what you like. Reliability is not my first consideration of a known new car from a decent manufacturer. Especially one that is performance oriented. The kind of car you just 'want'. Go for it! Its under warranty no matter.

I like the Lexus except the front end. Too Transformers. Wont age well.

shadoquad 06-01-2014 11:59 AM

M4, pretty sure it will have a manual option.

kenchan 06-01-2014 01:35 PM

Yah, I'd go for the m4 MT.

falconfixer 06-01-2014 02:59 PM

M4 cause I never heard of Toyota RCF

:iagree: Not a fan of that. Love the fact that it's a NA engine and not a turbo, as I do a fair amount of city driving and don't care for the lag. But I would love a manual trans.

Oh well, plan on keeping the Z for a couple more years but it never hurts to get your finances ready for the next toy ;)

Yes it will, the auto trans is a $2,900 option. Was on a BMW forum and one poster wrote that he does not like their turbo engines with a manual trans as there is occasional turbo lag when shifting gears (rpm's drop so turbo must spool up to speed again). While with their DCT there is no lag at all with gearshifts due to ECU and quickness of shifts.

Does that make sense about the manual lag?

Yeah, it does. My dd is an STi. Have to really know how to work that throttle when you shift, or

llllllllaaaaaaaagggggggg-BOOST

Thanks shadoquad!

BMW M4 Coupe - Model Overview - BMW North America

Twin turbo like the M235i im about to test. Minimal lag. I would not be too concerned overall. Drive and see what you think.

Magic Bus 06-05-2014 08:15 PM

DLSTR, Thanks.

Any thoughts forum, I believe the manual trans M4 will come with a SRM feature like the 370Z, would this eliminate any lag? Tried researching on a BMW forum and couldn't find an answer.

G37sHKS 06-06-2014 04:42 AM

RCF of course, Leave the M4 and the whole BMW generation for those who live beside the dealership :p

faceglide 06-15-2014 01:23 AM

DO you want a huge engine or turbocharged? They give a completely different drive and feel and you will never know which one you want more until driving them both.

They are both shaping out to be amazing cars, I personally am intrigued with the new closed deck straight 6 on the M4 and its possibility of being a modding dream(or nightmare..tuning).

If I was to leave them alone, the lexus would win for me. If I was single, I would default to BMW, because pussy magnet status symbol.

M4 with DCT and some boost uppage would likely score higher on relative $hit-your-pants-ometer.

Yeah, I would choose M4, but I would wait a model year at least and see if they(motor) crap out as hard as the rest of BMWs recent offerings. There is no wrong answer to your question my friend...unless Nissan has something amazing planned for the z35(highly unlikely), these are both amazing choices.

Magic Bus 06-18-2014 10:25 PM

DLSTR, Did you test drive the M235i?

wanker 06-18-2014 10:38 PM

The M4 but only a few years after its release. BMW's early M series releases always seem to have warranty issues until they get the bugs out.

edk370 06-18-2014 11:54 PM

BMW M4, because I see lots of 428i's on the street already. They're very beautiful, low, and wide; their body is distinguishable from the current 3-series. + they're "2JZTT'd" and easy to make more power out of.

Lexus...naw. I'm not into the ricey styling albeit this RCF's got V8 power. It looks like an Accord coupe with a body kit imo. Japanese cars are losing it for me. Their styling is getting kinda rice now.

Agreed, like most new models, a couple of years after initial release is a safer bet.

Magic Bus 06-19-2014 03:39 AM

edk370, I'm okay with the styling except for the front. Bigger negative to me would be the lack of a manual trans.

Front end's overall shape reminds me of the G37 coupe. That's dull and unoriginal imo. Plus, that grill reminds of me of those men's electric shavers. The styling is over the top for me. The car's profile looks like an Accord coupe....Nah. I'm gonna pass. The 370 is gorgeous, all the Japanese sports cars from the 90s with the exception of the Mitsu 3000GT are gorgeous...but Japanese sports car since 2000 are losing me. The styling is getting too gaudy imo.

Oh yeah, I like how hi po cars are losing the manuals. I think it's a sign of the times...hi po autos are faster than manuals....Out with the old and in with the new.

Magic Bus 06-19-2014 02:54 PM

edk, Haha I agree with your comment of the front grill looking like an electric shaver.

Regarding transmissions, I agree also. It's just that I'm an older guy and will give up a little bit of speed for the enjoyment of driving with 3 pedals.

Not looking to make a change or addition right now, so something else may come up in the next year or two. However if I were to go with one now, it would be the M4. It's a lot lighter in weight, as one of the reports that I just found, listed the RCF at a hefty 3,800+ lbs (not found on Lexus site, so not 100% sure this is fact).

DLSTR 07-13-2014 08:23 AM

Magic,

We have the M235i test on Tuesday. Weather should be great. Will pass data soon. Looking at the specs I wouldnt bother with the 435i. Its got less power weighs more etc. All reviews Ive read give the M235i the same performance as the outgoing M3. I think you might want to take a good look if our test is pleasing!

Cheers,

Dave

Super Werty 07-13-2014 09:31 AM

how much is the M4? The RCF is starting at $100,000

Tazicon 07-13-2014 10:32 AM

After the way I was treated at the Lexus dealership out here in Vegas I will never set foot in nor buy a Lexus. Never ever. "F**K" Lexus.

DLSTR 07-15-2014 02:45 PM

Magic,

Loved the 235i. Get it dont waste your time with the 435 etc. Too big. The proportions of the 235i are ideal. Fantastic power and pull. Great steering. I loved the seating position. Total package is a winner. It goes with all the reviews Ive read - a great drivers car!!!

Test was with the Auto model. Great gearbox, downshifts are incredible, quick, aggressive. The brakes are strong and bite. The motor is a gem and the exhaust note and sound in the cabin under full throttle are what the Z should be :) Best of luck with your decision!

sunkist350z 07-16-2014 05:00 PM

RCF in a heartbeat never been a fan of bmws think they are bland and ugly and they all look the same year after year.

b15 07-17-2014 10:28 AM

For most comparisons, I prefer Japanese vs Germans, but those Germans make some nice cars. Between the two, I'd pick the M4. I just can't get myself to like the new Lexus design language. I think it only looks good on the GS F-Sport and the LS F-Sport. If they toned down the sport look and turned up the raw performance on their F-Sport models, I wouldn't think twice about BMW!

kenchan 07-17-2014 10:51 AM

for this comparison, i dont even like toyota, but i would consider the IS350 F-sport.

im seriously considering buying a new one next summer... yah, that would be the day the kenchan ends.
keeping my Z ofcourse!

Love the interior on the IS but the exterior is too over styled for me. I like clean classic lines of the prior gen.

b15- yah, im kinda into that new styling for this car.

the previous gen was cool too, but tad ordinary. new design is more committed and i like that.
if i want ordinary, i would get the latest honda accord if sedan.

DLSTR 07-17-2014 12:52 PM

Lexus styling has gone from an element of timeless to Transformers and out of proportion. Not good at all.

Agree. They improved on their already excellent interiors, but took two steps backwards in their exterior design. They need to re-work that corporate grille/front end. Hopefully they aren't as stubborn as Honda and that stupid beak they've put on every ugly Acura since who knows when.

kenchan 07-17-2014 01:12 PM

for someone that was not impressed with previous lexus models (me), i think they this
IS350 right.
