Hmm. Guess nobody wanted that one. Was there an even lower tier version that was closely priced to the boosted one? How much more was the V6?

They cheapest 4 banger is cheaper than cheapest v6 by about 4 grand. Yeah I wonder if more people actually bought v6 over 4.
Yeah your right, 4 banger was some kinda Hyundai, Chrysler, Mitsu collaboration, based on Evo. Sh(t, now that you say maybe they are just preparing for the end of Evo and won't have scale of use for the 4.

Does it have anything to do with Mitsu giving up on making interesting cars so they likely killed their 2.0T?

It could also be due to warranty/consumer complaints with the turbos. Turbos always have consumer complaint and warranty issues, at least in the US. (If you read consumer reviews of the GC turbos, you'd be dismayed at the number of banal consumer complaint regarding the noise etc.) Plus Naturally aspirated V-6s are always cheaper to build and service.

My wife has the sonata turbo 274hp motor 50k miles no complaints same engine as the newer gen coupe 4 cyl. The motor is strong for sure. I remember the testing where they tried to blow it up on a track and failed.
Reliability it's a great engine. I'm assuming that the market for the gen couple most people wanted the higher performer for a little more money. Unlike camaros and Mustang who get all sorts of buyers that are ok to have a v6 or 4 cylinder in their "muscle car" I use those quotes loosely.

I think it stems from the unreliabilityof the Genesis Coupe 2.0. Over the years Hyundai just couldn't get it together when it came to the 2.0. They replaced 50% of the transmissions and I have had many ECU issues on the 2.0. Modders have been very dissatisfied with the output of the pre 13 models. Posts: 13 the Genesis Coupe isn't as bad but the same tranny issues exist and many customers complain the car does not feel like a turbo.
the 3.8 puts down more power more torque $2000 more. turbo and supercharger kits are cheap for the 3.8 and costs about the same how to mod as the 2.0. The 2.0 end results in half the output. and no transmission issues with the 3.8 From the way the article reads, it also seems like the gencoupe will be going harder at the Q 60 coupe aka g37. By cutting out the 2.0 they can invest more money into the 3.8 to make it a better competitor. With the new Kia GT Coupe RWD concept out now I'm pretty sure the 2.0 will be used in that car and will probably have better transmission and ECU mapping. The Kia GT, looks like it may be a FRS killer?

I just drove 2.0t and 3.8 gen coupe(looking to replace my z that dealer doesn't know what to fix and blames intake and hfc).
I see y they wanna get rid of that 2.0t motor. It doesn't sound good and not meant for a sporty coupe that size and doesn't seem like a good match to manny tranny. V6 was better but I still didn't feel the connection. I really wanted to like the car too. I'll have to drive v6 again later. I drove rspec, nice seats, and radio though.

One of my pet peevs with Hyundai is that they facelift their cars every 6 weeks. Last edited by Limeybastard; 07-27-2014 at 01:03 AM. |

I found the track model very good for the street. It just needs tires as wide as our Z sport to really get better grip in the corners. Also it needs a lower COG for overall roadholding. That would give it some track prowess. The steerings is numb unless you push the car hard, then it livens up and feels nicely weighted. What is wrong with the 2.0 is it is a Sams Club version of the venerable, yet frugal Lancer engine. How Hyundai justified cheapening parts on an already cheap engine is beyond me??? Then the 2.0 did not mate well with the Aisin, retuned the Aisin with the ECU.. Nothing. ZF tranny... nothing. Hyundai sourced... Still unreliable. The 2.0 has been unreliable with all 3 transmissions. My guess is, Hyundai woke up and realized you can't build a SAMS club engine for the track and they are pulling it from the market. I think we will see the 2.0 built right and working right in the upcoming KIA GT4 coupe. Kia did wonders with the Koup. They call it an 8/10 civic in performance with better interior. NOT bad comparitive statement considering how loved the Civic is. Lets see what happens when they put Macys parts to replace the old sams club bits.
