I will admit I do have a young person mentality in a lot of ways but I did actually get into computers at a very young age so I also primarily used DOS when started using computers. Windows 95 was actually new when I built my first one after a couple years of starting my interest. I also played all the old dos games when they were new (commander keen, wolf 3d, doom, etc...) which is usually only the case for people I meet in their 40's, heh. But that is probably the limit of anything about me that is older than most. That and I only listen to classic rock (70's/80's, yeah stuff from before I was born).

I test drove the GT-R. I thought my 370z had decent power but OMFG i was actually startled the one point i nearly flored it in 2nd gear from about 3000 RPM. I can't believe how hard it pulled, didn't even make it into third (not that i was planning on continuing to accelerate anyway as only 50 speed limit but like i was startled to the point that i quickly let off the gas, definitely never driven something that powerfull.

I really didn't like the lag when shifting, like it shifted quick but there was latency from hitting the button between when it did it. I suspected it was because I wasn't in R-mode which I think i verified after the fact.

Anyway really have to say I had an 'interesting' experience at the dealer. I kind of decided I wanted to go for a new one but again I needed to test drive one first. I called the dealer up let them know I wanted a test-drive and was interested in a new one but no one had any used ones except them near my area.

I got there and the sales guy i talked to over the phone was really nice, absolutely zero hassle getting the test drive and other than the one little punch of the gas I drove it very normal the whole time.

I told them that I wanted to give them my business if I could as they were very accommodating with the test-drive on the used GT-R but I don't normally go into dealerships and negotiate and I was looking for a good deal. I never give numbers myself I wait for them to give me numbers. Back when I got my 370Z I would email multiple dealers and chose the best offer I got and got my Z a few hundred over invoice. I told them I was interested in a 2014 or a 2015 which had to be blue (there are many around) which was not the case with my Z. I said that if it was a '14 I would probably expect really near invoice price but if its a 2015 somewhere between the invoice price and the MSRP.

I did have some suspicions this dealer would not be great from the 1.5 star yelp rating compared to the 4 yelp rating of fontana nissan which I get my 370Z serviced at and has been excellent so far but had no used GT-R's. Anyway

Anyway back to my story so it kind of goes down hill after the test drive. I knew they didn't have the car I wanted there but they of course said they could get it (which was obvious but I wasn't sure if they would be able to deal) or not. They have me waiting for quite a while as the sales guy is checking tags and looking stuff up. After about 15 minutes I am ready to just ask him to email me a price and we could negotiate over email. I also told him there was no way I would purchase the car that day as I don't want to let emotion grab hold and effect my decision making.

Anyway finally the senior guy (said he was the director of something) comes down with I guess info for an offer. First he starts going into this huge Spiel about the 3 days it takes them to do all this prep work for the GT-R and I am sure a lot of what he said was true although I wonder if this is really their cost or Nissan's. Anyway he also doesn't want to tell me an actual number and is talking payments and crap and I tell him that to not worry about financing i can just pay for the car for cash or will be getting my own financing... After that he asks me to go grab my check book (for some reason) after asking if I had one with me (and I did, in my car).

I thought that was weird but I thought whatever... I will just go along with it I want to do my due diligence and at least get to the point I hear their number...

Anyway as he continues going through the spiel of all the stuff that is done with the car I am sure my body language could not contain the WTF moment I had when he starts to tell me that a tech tests the engine by hooking up a computer to it, disables the rev-limiter and then precedes to rev it to 15k RPM... Yes i verified several times... 15K RPM... Like I am sorry but I can't believe that. Like maybe 10k or something would be believable to me. He also says why they are doing it the engine is making a sound (and mimicks the sound you hear hitting the rev limiter) and I go to say if the rev limiter is off why would it be doing that unless its cutting off fuel to the engine like a rev-limiter does and on cars I have had which don't have rev limiters that does not happen they just stay steady at their top RPM screaming...

I finally said that I will take his word for it although I am skeptical about that and finally I get him to show me the number. It is like 1k under MSRP and he has circled that he will *only* make 2500 of this deal. I really have no clue how that is the case when the cars MSRP was like 106k and he was putting down 105k something and even the invoice price he showed me was 101.x. Also I am aware of things like the holdbacks and credits they get although granted I messed up and was calling it 'buyback' but I bet he knew what I was talking about...

Anyway I ask him is that invoice price really your complete cost, you don't get any other credits or deductions on the car and he said yes that is the actual cost to them. I am sure my body language showed i was very skeptical and on habit asked seriously? after he said yes.

Anyway the guy got really pissed off and said if you are going to disrespect me by not believing in his knowledge in the car and their delivery procedure thing and not believe what he is saying then they don't want me and then promptly says 'Get Out!.' I get up and he yells off Leave....

Needless to say I promptly walked out and will never be going to that dealer again.

Honestly even on the off chance everything this guy said was true I could see how someone in my position would be skeptical but I was a little shocked when he had the reaction I did. He also implied that the company that owns his dealer ship owns a bunch of other ones (including like corona and riverside nissan) and that I couldn't do any better anywhere else.

For a car like a GT-R id go nationwide and my first priority would be to get one from a NAGTROC member with a full history.
I bought and owned 3 diff Lotus Turbo's. Bought them all slightly used and never went to a dealer ever. Best of luck in the search. I wont comment on how much BS that guy was attempting to blow up your tailpipes.

That guy's an ass. It's your money, your purchase. Screw his delicate feelings, he's trying to make money off of you. Find it at another dealer, and let him stare at the model he could have sold for the next few months.

A car is a car: Get the Black Book and consult the real, honest to god auction value. Walk in with that and watch them get pale.

For a car of that cost, expect massive depreciation.

2010 GT-R (from 2012) Black Book = $80,790 MSRP, $65,2550/$62,750 Wholesale (Clean/Average) and $73,325/$71,000 Retail (Clean/Average).

For point of reference: 2011 MSRP = $84,060 MSRP (no details on other prices in 2012 BB), and $89,950 non-Black edition (again, no other prices in 2012 BB -- get the 2014 Black Book!)

Go in, know the actual value of the car, and give them motherfucking hell. All cars are worthless, depreciating hunks of ****, and all dealers make a profit on the back and front end -- take no prisoners.

Well I pulled the trigger on the GT-R. I decided to get a new 2014 model as they can be had for pretty good deals and there were no 2014 premium blue GT-R's in my area so I ended up dealing with dealer in Georgia.

Completely have the price worked out/out the door/etc... It is literally 14k cheaper than the dealer in Tustin was trying to sell me a 2015 premium for. Getting it for ~3k under invoice.

Looks like next weekend I am going to have a long road trip. Already ordered a plane ticket and I plan on flying out and driving back. Hopefully will have all the paperwork done tomorrow.

I am keeping my Z which will be my backup car or for when I am really in the mood to drive something with a clutch.

Kickass! Wish I could get one right now. I'm in the process of doing my homework and getting everything ready. I've got about a year, maybe more, before I'm committed to signing papers. I need to find a 2012+ for the lowest possible cost, obviously, with less than 30k miles and less than $70k. More of $60-65k is what I want to get it for but I'm guessing I'll need to wait at least another year for that pricing, plus I'll probably be trading in the Z, maybe not.

Good luck with the GTR! I know they're a blast to drive. I was able to beat on a few 2013 black editions at Nissan's expense at Nismo Performance Academy last year. So much want!!
